Day 2: A song that's under 3 minutes long

I'm low key kicking myself for not thinking of this song for yesterday's prompt.

From now on, whenever anyone asks me what my walk on song is, I'm gonna say this. But it's gotta be the version with the San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra.

Punk would be the best place to dig, but it seems like a bit of a cheat (and I may need it if we keep lowering the time). So this is one of my favorite Police songs -- peppy, energetic, and depressed as hell. Their first single was about a prostitute, and this follow-up was about suicide. Outlandos d'Amour, everybody! (The first three Police albums are, end to end, outstanding).

"Can't Stand Losing You," The Police (2:58)

Have to agree on the song. And the first three police albums.

Hard to find any lackluster songs on any of those records!

They Might Be Giants - The Famous Polka
that'll teach me for being cocky yesterday... anyway, you can rely on TMBG for short, sharp pop goodness. They included this in their recent live sets in the UK, sans vocals, but my main memory of this is a very sweaty and riotous gig in 1990 in a small venue in London where members of the audience were swinging around, arm in arm and, invariably, slipping over on the wet floor (a mix of drink and sweat!). Luckily, there was a long bench at the side of the venue, so you could get a rest, before rejoining the melee.

Before spinal tap, there was the Ruttles, a band that parodied the Beatles. This is a mashup of β€œif I fell” and β€œMichelle” I think.

The clip is 2:09 but the song is 1:54.

That’s Eric Idle (doing his best McCartney imitation) and Neil Innes from Monty Python.
