Worrying… got a random verification code for a service that’s used to connect financial institutions (Plaid, if you’ve heard of it). I didn’t request any code…

No, text. So it doesn’t say what the institution or app that’s trying to be connected it, just the code & that it’s from Plaid.

Sounds like smishing... SMS phishing.

Can even come through on legitimate text threads
I don't click on links in texts anymore because of it.

If someone tries to log into your account from and unregistered/unknown device/I.P. address, you will get sent a verification code to the phone number on file that has to be entered to verify that it is you trying to access the account. Without entering that code, which has a time limit to use it, they can not get into your account.
