Perfect or Great Songs

This one will probably also go on the perfect albums list. (Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon)

There’s a trio of perfect songs on that album, but this one always stood out to me. Not only is at a classic, but my dad loved it, and he hated most of my music. 😂 He saw the original Wolfman movies, Dracula, movies, and Frankenstein movies in the theater as a kid (he was born in 1926). He also took me to see an American werewolf in London. If I’m not mistaken, there were some good T&A scenes in that movie.

Anyway, werewolves of London is a perfect song. Perfectly written, the catchy and iconic, “Aaaaoooooooo” chorus.

This song is a memory song which makes it great to me as it may have been the first song I ever did on stage. I know I should be certain of the first song I did but I was a nervous wreck.

Page 2 won’t load for me, so sorry I missed some of your guys songs.

This song has the catchiest motherfuckin keyboard ever. I’ll never forget the first time I heard it, exploring, old-school ska music from the 1960s. Now I just lost all my hair so the look is a lot easier to maintain! Still have giant mutton chops, freed Perry and Ben Sherman shirts… and of course the docs.

This video is from a lot of the original 1960s “terrace” look, the sense of community, the fun, the dance halls and the girls.

Mr 9 til 5 - Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM)

The manic nature of the workweek is exquisitely captured by the band's expert musicianship, as is the serenity of the weekend - and back again.

Do you want me to repost my songs from page 2?

Phil Collins to me his music is special and his talent unmatched sadly his health is failing..
Anyhow you can't Mention Phil Collins without this song.. In the Air Tonight and I can't tell you how much I hate the story about someone drowning etc.. HE has said MANY times that story is not true the song is not about someone drowning..

Here’s an idea for a thread. Yeah, there’s a metric fuckton of music threads, but I really like the perfect album thread and I think this would be a good compliment to it…

Here’s the catch: ya gotta tell us why it’s so great!

Anyone can copy/paste a song in, but ur a music fan and you wanna talk and write about it! Put the lit in literotica!

Even if it’s just a few sentences.

Maybe it’s something about how ahead of its time the song was, or what it means to you, or the sound is just so perfect or it brings back a great memory, or maybe just historical context.

And yeah, link the vid… let’s hear it have a link to the song you love so much.

Let’s try unlimited for right now, but if it gets too clogged up, maybe limited to a couple of songs a day… unless this thread is a one hit wonder…

And chime in - always room for spirited and constructive agreement or disagreement.

See below for an example.
The perfect song - not simply worth a listen; this could be the subject of a curriculum. The lyrics (by drummer Neil Peart) tell the tale of Dionysus vs. Apollo. From the moment of the first chord, a single chord (the so-called "Alex Lifeson" chord) which is my personal favorite sounding chord to play on guitar - just play the F#-major position but with the open b-e strings...I mean...chills. This is a symphony. This is mastery at its apex...and...3 People! Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres.

Maybe the perfect "Diss Track"

"Hooker with a Penis" by Tool

- great musicianship
- aggressive while still clever and funny
- shreds everyone, the target, the band themselves, society as a whole
- criticizes capitalism's heavy influence while then embracing it to get their cut
- balls to do a diss track about your own fans
- getting thousands of people to mosh and yell "f you buddy" along with Maynard in a song that explicitly attacks those same fans for being judgmental and naive is pretty epic

The guitar on this song and many other songs by them is fucking amazing.

Tool is a phenomenally amazing band!

Magic Bus - The Who - Live at Leeds

The original, from 'Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy' was a nice pop song, but the live version is an icon for the band:

I love The Who.

I was lucky to see them and the clash at Shea Stadium in 1982. We did not know that the NJ Transit trains stopped running at midnight, so we had to stay at Penn Station till the first train ran back to High Bridge in the morning. I got an ass beating that next day by my dad, but it was totally worth it.

I wish I had seen them do Quadrophenia about 30 years ago. My ex-wife saw it and said it was amazing. But I did see them when they played the old Nassau Colosseum in 2015. It was a great show and we got some really great seats off to the side, but maybe only 50 or 60 feet from the stage. The next night we saw the cockney rejects play in Brooklyn.

I posted this gem in today’s music challenge. It’s from the kids are all right. I think this was Keith Moon‘s final performance.

The synthesizer opening and bridge get me every time…

I only saw them once at the L.A. Coliseum on their first 'farewell tour'. Great show by them and their second bill The Clash. Third bill, T-Bone Burnett was also great. What a day!

I think that was the same tour. 1982 I think. I was a sophomore in high school.

When I was a teen, I got introduced to Depeche Mode by friends.

I had "people are people" memorized since I was 15.
When i was 17, they came to Portland and upon hearing it on the radio, I freaked out!! I not only wanted to go, I needed to go.

So, I got a summer job pulling weeds. And had enough for that concert!!
They weren't the best seats, but it was the fact that I was there!

I'm 51 and still listen to Depeche Mode!

And, the words still are true today!!!
