2007 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

That's not a vote though. That's a rating. A vote goes to the scores, a rating just rates how the reader liked/didn't like the story.

Aha! Thank you for clarifying that. I learn something new every day. I had always thought that you ended up with two votes and one was eventually swept away. (That was truly an aha moment for me.) :D

I believe that the official version is that if you vote on a story before you leave a comment, the vote will be counted and the thermometer rating will not; but if you don't vote before, the system will assume the rating as a vote (0%=1, 25%=2, 50%=3, 75%=4, 100%=5).

That makes sense. Unless authors actually keep track of the fluctuations of their scores, they have no way of knowing how individuals voted. The thermometer rating is a way for the reader to inform the author of this. Of course, sometimes they can lie, and vote one way and mark the thermometer differently.

I'm in for the run..... But I'm a contest virgin... ;-))

How do I turn on PM?

How/where do I get a scorecard? Then how do I 'maintain' it?
Ah, that's why we have 'the rules', go study them and if you still have questions then, come back here. ;)
Ok, I'll answer your questions: PM can be turned on in your User CP (if it's not already on) under Edit Options.
A scorecard will be made for you in the Scoreboard in this forum. You have to update it yourself.

Thanks.... still not sure about scorecards...

I got the PM set and I'd already read the rules and the FAQ. But unless I missed it, I didn't see HOW the scorecard is maintained.

Without details in the rules or the FAQ, the 1st time user has no clue.

I guessed the 'gods' would create the scorecard, hoped anyway. It would also be nice to know when to expect notification, if any. When I found the scorecard BOARD, it said I could not post there so HOW can I maintain it.

Seems like a good detail to put in the FAQ or the rules. :cathappy:
So far, I'm still in the dark.

You should get a PM when the scorecard is made for you. If you have a squizz at any of the others, you'll see how it works. It's pretty straightforward.
It's up to you to add in stories and points as new material is posted.

Also there's a template scorecard, search amongst the oldest scorecards. Just copy it and use it to fill in your scores.

Lauren sent me a PM with a link to my scorecard and there is link in the scorecard thread Lauren creates to a template, just copy that and post it as a reply to Lauren's post and then start filling in your details. :)

Novice question

I have entered the Survivor contest and have written my story. As this is my first time, please direct me to where I should post the story. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Literotica, Jill. I have written stories about a beautiful young woman named Jill. Rather than answer your question, here is a link to where the answers are:

thank you, boxlicker101

I appreciate your help. Perhaps by now you have advanced from a 101 level to a 200, 300, or even graduate level in boxlicking. Love the name...

That's not my status as a student. That's my status as a teacher. I teach elementary boxlicking, :p and I have written hundreds of papers on the subject. :D

Hello?

"Hello? Is there anyone here?"

Geez, this place is spooky. It's deserted. I wonder where everyone is. I hope this is where I was supposed to post my immunity. Only, there's no one else here and no one else posted. There's not even an official list of winners. Where'd everyone go?

I noticed that the Survivor scorecard hasn't been updated in more than a week. Does this mean that I've already won?

Alright, I'm going to go now before I piss off you know who again.

I'll check back later.

Take care.

Whatever the reasons for doing that, they shirley must have as final goal to rip you off. Don't let the bastards get you down!

Just wondering

Afraid to post anything to this thread for fear of reprisal from a certain someone, I just need to ask when I can expect an update to the Survivor Contest scores. It has been a few weeks since they have been updated and I was just wondering the scores of my competition.

I'm not accustomed to playing a game where I do not know what the score is. I can't imagine playing darts or ping pong and not knowing the score. I suppose that I should be glad that the Red Sox and Patriots post their scores, as soon as they earn them.

I am sorry if I offended you with this post but I was just wondering.

I'll go now. Carry on. You are doing a good job. Take the rest of the day off.

Love, humps, hugs, and kisses,

Freddie

I can almost picture you bowing low and backing out of the room. LOL

Aren't you keeping track of your own? I believe we're supposed to, according to the rules. (It's under scoring and miscellany in the Rules thread. http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=486785 ) I copied my score card, put it in a word document and update it every time I submit something.

On the scoring thread, there is purposely a link to every single contestant's scorecard. You can check them all. It may not be as easy and convenient as the service Lauren provides for us, but it's not like you're being left completely in the dark here.

Happy Halloween

Yes, thank you ladies for your nice responses. Of course I keep track of my own score but there's no sense of only tracking your own score when there are more than 100 others.

I guess, I have to roll up my sleeves, open up an Excel spreadsheet page, and play accountant to see what the up-to-date scores are. Maybe, I'll just wait until January when they post the winners.

Thanks,

Happy Halloween to everyone out there. I hope whoever is entered in the Halloween contest wins. Hey, there could be a massive tie for first place, you never know. Stranger things have happened, such as this score card.

Okay, I gotta go. Here she comes.

"Bye!"

Since updating your own scorecard is voluntary, even the scoreboard doesn't tell you everything. Hell, somebody could theoretically write and submit stories all year long but not enter the contest until December 25th or some such date. Suddenly there's a new contestant you didn't even know about, whose score could be extremely high and allow them to win the competition.

Don't be so focused on the scoreboard. Nobody ever claimed it was completely accurate, as it's not. It gives you a general idea on where you're at, but there's no guaranteed way to know you're winning until it's all over. That's the way it has always been, and we'll just all have to live with it. Otherwise this would be boring!

Survivor Contest

Thank you FieryJen. I wrote about the scenario that you just wrote about in my story, Survivor Contest.

Actually, just my opinion, but I thought think it unfair that people can sand bag all year long and suddenly join at the last moment and post 650 points worth of stories.

Nonetheless, it is not my football and I am just glad to play whatever the rules are, I will dance to their music.

I figure that if I write another 120 stories between now and the end of the year, I'll have a good chance of finishing in 5th place (lol).

I'll be happy if I manage to write one more story. Time, motivation and plot all lacking right now!
