2007 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

I just love this Survivor Contest, don't you?

"Well, as it turns out, you were right, Bostonfictionwriter."

"Thank you, Bostonfictionwriter, I usually am. It's gets boring after a while."

"And you are so modest, too. How do you do it?"

"Well, Bostonfictionwriter, it takes some getting used to but..."

"So, are you going to tell them how it ends?"

"Nah, let them figure it out? Besides, they are all writers and writers love a twist with a suprise ending."

"...but, Bostonfictionwriter, aren't you going to tell them who MungoPark III really is?"

"That would ruin my fun, Bostonfictionwriter."

I care

Who cares?

That's okay. I wouldn't treat my dog the way you people treat me and any newcomers who post to these forum pages.

You, not necessarily you personally, but many of the people who haunt these pages 18 hours a day every day have severe mental disorders. I'm glad that I don't fit it with this bunch of fruitcakes. I'm glad my thinking is out of step with all of you. I'm glad that I don't have multiple personalities on this board, only one, Bostonfictionwriter. Boy, you people could keep a dozen psychiatrists busy all day.

Never have I been shown courtesy. I dare say if you saw me out in the street you would not treat me with such rudeness because you would never reveal your luncacy like that and in such a public way. You feel safe and detached behind your screen name, do you? "Nitwits!"

Or is this the behavior that you foster in your children, if any of you have any. Being here 18 hours a day, seven days, a week, how could you have time for anything else other than caring for a cat.

If I make a post to one of these threads, I am ignored. Where is your kindness? Especially during these holiday times when so many have such a tough time. You are a closed circle of "friends" and I use that term negatively.

Well, good luck to you in your misery. Misery spawns misery, bad health and diseases. For those of you who have been gracious to me during the year, thank you. For the rest of you miserable bunch and you certainly know who you are...Go fuck yourself because no one else will.

Happy New Year

Never, huh? Seems to me that more than once you were show quite a lot of courtesy but it didn't seem to make an impression. You continued to post rather nasty things. I hope whatever it is that makes you post the way you do moves the cloud off your head soon and you have a much better 2008.

As I said before, who cares?

Me! :D I wanted to wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin. But I've already made my peace with it.

Anything I get for my placement will be more than I had before. I think the best thing I've gotten out of this contest was that it made me stretch and write stories in categories I never would have otherwise considered. I would never have thought of writing essays but the feedback I've gotten on some of them have been wonderful. Just the act of writing so much, spewing if you will, improved my craft, I think.

Of course, not everything I wrote was of equal quality. I'm planning to focus on quality over quantity next year. But that's a personal choice. This is an amateur writer's site. Some stories are better than others and everybody has the right to join in and enjoy the game. As long as the rules are followed, I have no problems with the way anyone plays the game.

More power to Mungo Park. Honestly, I can really quite understand why someone would do it this way. Being in and keeping your scorecard up does seem to draw some unpleasant attention.

Happy New Year

Mate, I've only been around a month longer than you, so don't play the "poor picked on newbie" with me.
I remember your first few posts and treated you with respect, I recall. But you didn't do much to promote good grace.
Seems to me you got off on the wrong foot from the very start. You didn't have the sense to sit quietly and watch how the playground works before trying to muscle in and be top dog.

As to caring about how another plays the Survivor game: he's within the rules, so we just have to deal with it. I knew from the get go that there was a chance someone would do exactly what MungoPark has done. In fact I pretty much expected it; if not joining up late, at least updating their scorecard at the very end of the year. That's how last year's winner did it, apparently.
I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist about it. There's no point.

Last year's winner signed up in August. I think he did update his scorecard from that point on, but I don't remember for sure. I don't think we've ever had someone come in the last week and end up in one of the top spots like what is going to happen this year.

The closest was a last-minute sign-up directly to 10th place two years ago.
