A lit story or author that influenced you

HeyAll

I used to read HeyAll’s stories when I was an anonymous site visitor. When I started writing, he was the only established author on Lit who reached out to welcome me, and has since been very kind, helpful and encouraging.

Clunkety’s “The Cave”, jfinn’s “The Human Condition” and PiperBelle’s stories blew the roof off my preconceptions of amateur erotica, and even amateur storytelling in general, and unearthed a need in me to likewise write deep, introspective and resonant things.

I disagree sometimes with KeithD, but I think the point he makes here is a perfectly legitimate one, and is in no way contrary to the spirit of Lovecraft's thread. The "most influential" poll/contest is vague regarding its criteria. What does "influential" mean? My sense is people usually just pick a writer they like. A better award would simply be "Author of the Year."

This thread addresses a much more interesting and illuminating question than the poll/contest does, and I'm glad Lovecraft started it.
