kahuna: that sounds like a good pairing, meal/wine-wise. how'd it go? :>
Went really well. My mother in law thinks I'm some master chef now. She knew I could cook, but I don't think she knew I could cook! Between this and my Sesame Orange Chicken Lo Mein Firday night, I think I have a new fan.

The wine was incredible. Something I found at World Market. I personally would have never picked a Merlot to go with this because I thought it would be too heavy, but this was perfect.

I will say this though, Trying to do sauted onions and mushrooms, reduce a wine sauce, and cook both prime rib and prawns at the same time without overcooking either is tough for one person to pull off. Somehow I did it and everything was still resaonably hot when it hit the table. I was pretty wore out though by the time I got done! It was a blast, and I got to play with my new knives. :D

b. i haven't found a red wine sauce yet, but i will look for it...

he also wants asparagus or something with it. i haven't had this since i was little and don't even rember what it tastes like... also, i'm looking for a chocolate... something for dessert, and scalloped potatoes.

bascally, i have never made ANYTHING that i am making for this meal... i have been experimenting with other things lately, but i am less knowledgeable on alot of these things. if anyone has any recipies or suggestions for anything they would like to share, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Somewhere I have a Merlot sauce that is killer. I'll see if I can find the recipe I started with. I ussually tweak stuff and I never write anything down. I need to stop doing that.

As for chocolate, have you thoguht about maybe doing a chocolate fondue? I have a dark chocolate recipe that is really easy to make an just incredible. It's also a lot of fun, a very social and interactive way to end a romantic meal. :)

well, the timing is the real problem in the meal, no? that just means managing your time a bit different, i would think.

glad to hear it went so well! :>

I haven't tried a chocolate fondue, but I have recently become addicted to allrecipes.com and have been cooking so many wonderful meals. My SO says I cook better than his mom (I said "DONT TELL HER THAT!") I've tried so many good things... a couple bad apples in there. I've been wanting to make a chocolate mousse with raspberries and blackberries and whatnot layered in it. I've been poor this month though because a bunch of people owe me money -damn them! so my SO has been paying for food, which is Suprise! burgers and pizza! but as soon as things get back to normal next week...oh yeah, I'm making so much bomb stuff!
