Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem, The Hill We Climb, banned by Miami-Dade school

Citation please.
A spokesperson for Miami-Dade County Public Schools told CNN that “no literature (books or poem) has been banned or removed.”

A materials-review panel at the school declined to remove the books from the school entirely but did decide to move the Gorman poem and two other disputed items to the library’s middle school section, which is for grades six through eight, according to minutes of an April meeting of the committee that were obtained by the nonprofit.

“It was determined at the school that ‘The Hill We Climb’ is better suited for middle school students and, it was shelved in the middle school section of the media center. The book remains available in the media center.”

That doesn’t back up what you said.
Where does it say that any age student has access to the book?

Oh, you think they have people checking children’s IDs at each section of the library? Each bookshelf? 😂

“In our correspondence with the school district, we received no indication that an elementary-age child would meet resistance from a librarian should they want to walk over to the middle school section of the library to read the works.”

I read a ton of porn in fifth grade.... obviously we need to protect the children.

So you don't know for certain. Thanks.

If there is no obstruction and access is available to all to read, why did they bother moving it to the middle school section?

Literally nothing wrong with it remaining where it was.

This cosmetic rhetoric-fu you and yours bank on is sloppy.

It's sad that people 'don't trust Snopes', presumably because it keeps pointing out the unfortunate truth. They'd rather trust Breitbart, which tells them what they want to hear.

We still have no update as to why anyone would think the book is unacceptable (we know that the complainant wanted it banned because she thought it had been written by someone with the name 'Obama' and that's enough for anyone, surely). There are a few lines that the extreme right wing might find disconcerting, such as 'the norms and notions of what just is isn’t always just-ice' and 'being American is more than a pride we inherit'.

Apart from that, there isn't much to be afraid of.

See post #26. The reason is explained clearly in the Review Committees minutes. The “book ban” hoax is officially debunked.

A single parent complained. A review committee looked into the complaint and determined the poem has educational value. That’s why the book has not been removed from the media center and remains accessible by all students of all ages.

The book / poem was moved to appease an ignorant fascist.

By moving the book / poem, the school district sent the message that there was something inappropriate about it for elementary age students.

It never should have been moved,

Full stop.

Providing they sneak into the senior level library for a crafty read.

Keep trying 😂

So again, did they receive any indication younger get kids could access the book? Still waiting on you to provide proof on this one.

Let's see the cite.
#29 and again #38. You and the sarge apparently don’t go to libraries or bookstores very often. Bookshelves are commonly organized by audience and interest. If an exceptionally advanced elementary student wants to read poetry written by a poet when she was in her late teens or early 20s, inspired by Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, and other adult writers and orators, The Hill We Climb can be found in the middle school section. And if middle school kids or adults with your level of reading comprehension want to read books by Dr. Seuss, they can be found in the elementary section.

"Exceptionally advanced"?

Probably where & how you grew up. Elsewhere, normal elementary students were - and are - reading those poets & writers in 4th/5th grade onward.

Poor, dumb Deplorables. 😔 This is why people like you should stay out of politics and policy; let educated people do the work instead. Kthx!

Huh. Now it's about reading comprehension levels alla sudden.

The semantic excuses are just gettin' all semantic-ker. :ROFLMAO:

The media center places books in sections based on recommended grade levels. Any student can access any book in any section. A kindergartner, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader isn’t as likely to read The Hill We Climb as a 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader. The poem was written by a young adult who recited it to a predominantly adult audience. So it’s been placed in the middle school section. Curious why you are opposed to middle school kids reading this poem?

Neither of those posts contain a cite which backs up what you’ve claimed. I guess this will be another of those instances where you don’t have anything.

Because if they can read it, then it's not banned and their entire bullshit narrative goes off the rails again.
