An Open Letter to Stacnash (feel free to ignore this)

Stacnash was the one who left the review on my latest story telling me that, while overall they enjoyed it, the sex was a little "dry and clinical."

I sent them a polite email thanking them for the review and posted a thread here to discuss the topic of improving "clinical" sex scenes in my writing.

I wasn't insulted by their review. They're entitled to their opinion.

I honestly don't care about the "troll / alt account drama."

I'm sorry if some are experiencing One Bomb attacks on their story.

But the fact is that without direct evidence, you can't lay the blame on one person.

And there's no way to provide that evidence since the site doesn't attach member names to ratings.

From what I've seen and read as this whole situation has developed, she IS banned permanently from the forum and I'm guessing it's because of accusations of her being a troll/alt account and ad hominem/hostile interactions with other forum users. From what I saw how she interacted with AwkwardlySet and NoTalentHack could be considered personal attacks. To what extent we as users can't know, if she was trolling/bombing/intensely insulting them I think that's grounds for dismissal but we won't know a lot of that because we can't view IP addresses and things like that to make those assumptions.

Her profile still exists and she can still access the reader and author side of the website. I believe she did a review of one of our AH regulars a few days ago, they mentioned it in the Comments that Made My Day thread. To my understanding, she can still read the forum, but can't comment or react anymore, I guess?
No. She isn't banned from the forum at all. She had a couple of her abusive posts edited to the default reply, then left, presumably in disgust.

She said in her anonymous feedback that she was banned.

She was banned because NTH reported that she was an alt that Tilan was using to troll (or at least that what both she and NTH believe).

She denied that she was Tilan to me, but NTH remains unconvinced, I'm pretty sure.
What anonymous feedback was that?

Ah, well, I'm just going by what her pal popped by to say the other day and the fact that when you search her user name on the forum side you get an error message. But hey, what do I know? I don't know and... don't much care, but you're right it could easily be self exile from the forum since it's absolutely no trouble to just make a new account and carry on.

I dipped out shortly after she showed up on forum because I could feel the drama storm brewing, and boy was my intuition ever right on that one.

I don't have any opinion about whether SN is Tilan. I don't know. I don't care.

I have nothing personal against SN. She wrote a negative review of one of my stories, but it wasn't a trollish sort of review. I didn't agree with all the points made, but it didn't bother me much. She made some good points in criticizing my story. Everything she wrote about my story was within the realm of acceptable criticism.

But this bothered me: SN wrote a review of one of Chloe Tzang's stories, and in her comment said something to the effect of "You don't have a crumb of talent."

If you say something like that to a fellow author, even if you genuinely believe it, you are a f@#$ing A-hole. Period. There is no cause, ever, to talk that way to your fellow authors, and if you DO talk that way, then as far as I'm concerned if you get banned you get what you deserve. I have no sympathy whatsoever.

It's not a matter of free speech. You have almost unlimited ability in this forum to express your views about stories and other issues without being personally nasty to other authors. As far as I'm concerned, once you cross the line of getting personally nasty with people, you get what you deserve. Good riddance. This was Tilan's problem. He couldn't help himself, because he WANTED to be nasty to people, to impugn their motives and to insult them. He got banned for a while for doing it, then he came back, and then he kept doing it, because deep down it's what he wants to do. I see no reason for the site to put up with that. Good bye, and don't come back.

This isn't a cause worth fighting for or even wasting time thinking about. All of us have the freedom in this forum to express our views about writing without getting personal and vicious. It's not that difficult a line to avoid crossing.

I basically got a similar review, with a similar reaction. I didn't entirely agree with SN, but their opinions were valid.

I was unaware of the more personal attacks. SN did come off as snarky and arrogant in the forum, but to be fair, she was taking a lot of heat and accusations as well.

But yeah I don't believe in trashing an author just to trash them.

Especially since, to my knowledge, SN has never written a story, or at least published under that name.

What anonymous feedback was that?
She sent me a message through the "Send Instant Feedback" function on the Author's page. It comes anonymously to the author's email, unless you leave an email address. She did not.

She claims that she was banned from the forums, but not the site. Trying to click her name in the forums brings up an error message.

Chloe was not unduly castigated. She is a fascist who does not deserve the polite treatment others give her simply because she's nice to them in public.

SN's criticism of Chloe's story, as I recall, had nothing to do with her politics, so your opinion is a non sequitur. To the extent Chloe puts her politics out there in her stories or in comments in the Politics forum, then her views are fair game for criticism. But political differences are not a reasonable basis for piling on ad hominem attacks about a person's talent, which is what SN did.

Call me Jon Snow and send me to the wall, 'cause I don't know shit. 😁

A great take on Jon Snow. The funny thing about him is that through the entire series we were led to root for him as the good guy, but he constantly made bad decisions. At the end when you watch him heading north of the wall, you kind of think, "Yeah, that's probably for the best."

He was such a tool. I'm sure if we're going by series end he'll find some kind of way to fuck up being banished a second time. 😂

I don't feel the need to be careful (wtf😂) with my opinion when discussing someone who was not at aaaall careful with their opinion xxx
You've never heard of being the bigger woman? Just because someone did wrong, doesn't mean you should follow suit. ;)

Worst of all, if someone is guilty of one crime, and you accuse them of a different crime, then if they can prove their innocence of the false accusation, people less likely to catch them for their real crime!!😱

But she hasn't done anything wrong. It's not a crime to rattle the wasps nest and walk away. Some people find that quite entertaining. 🐝
