I think it's a dead and not innocent, loved one, or same one. I see desperation, guilt but not of own making ( in colours) powerlessness.
This seems appropriate after this past week.

Certainly could be, I enjoy your observations, but I have to argue about it not being of their own making.
Instead of outright anguish, I see a silent sort of lamenting in that face. Not crying out loud/surprised, but silently weeping for the death of something or someone that was one of a kind. The muted expression and fact that it's " tears " are either the same color as or what makes up the form it's holding, speaks to me of a certain amount of personal involvement in whatever it's still clinging on to. Worst type of guilt, is when we can see it coming, but only fully realize we did in hindsight.
