Bandit's Blurt and Vent Thread

and she is inspirational. Infact I think both of you are and your relationship and the love you share. :rose:

and thankyou for your thoughts Gil *smile* I appreciate that very much

Hi minx, thank you :) Right now I'm pretty emotionally stuffed, and Sir has to get on that machine tomorrow (again!).

I'm thinking of taking myself off to the gym for a while during the first couple of hours (He's usually fine then, and I will have my cell phone with me plus I am only 5 minutes at most drive away).

I had plans to make it there a couple more times this week but circumstances have prevented that....oh well there's always next week :)

And as if we needed more drama....

I was woken this morning at about 5.40am by Sir making funny noises. I reached out and found Him covered in sweat - He was having a massive hypo (low blood sugar). I did a test, it was 2.2 on the meter - normal is between 5 and 8.

So I started feeding Him soft caramels and wiping Him down with a towel. 15 minutes later I did another test - 2.1  He'd had about 5 caramels by then and it should have been coming up. He was responding to me but His speech was slurred and He was still managing to chew and swallow the sweets. Another couple of sweets and 10 more minutes, I did yet another test - it hadn't moved still 2.1.

It had been over half an hour and it should have started to come up by then so I called the ambulance. A few minutes later it arrived and two lovely ladies came in and took over, they gave Him an injection of glucagon and it was only a couple of minutes or so before He started to come round. Huge sigh of relief from me!

We had breakfast and then went back to bed for a while, Sir was chilled from the hypo so a nice warm snuggle was in order :)

Wow. Very scary.

Glad everything was ok. *hugs*

Thanks grace :) This has happened before, although not for a couple of years now.
We made it through most of dialysis today, although Sir did start to cramp again so He came off 5 minutes early. Still might have to put His weight up by another half a kilo though

Bandit- we used to have this gel that was absorbed through the gums for a friend of mine. They didn't have to be awake, swallow or anything and it worked very fast.

Maybe like this

Thanks Noor I will have to look into this but a hypo this bad hasn't happened for over 2-3 years :)

Things appear to be going better this week, although there has been some cramping but not as bad. Sir went to the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound on the fistula because He thought it wasn't buzzing as strongly, but even though the flow is a bit slower it all looks ok. The reason for this may be because His blood pressure is close to or just above normal for the first time in years - He isn't even taking any BP meds now whereas before He was taking 3 different ones. We're happy about this, because it means less medication He has to take (He doesn't rattle so much now) :D

Oh, and a silly story to finish with....Sir was watching one of the American morning news shows (they screen in the early hours over here) and told me the next morning about this great band He'd seen on there...."Nuclear Boy" Huh? OHHH yeah He meant Fallout Boy.....:D

We seem to be having a problem with one of the buttonholes again (the tunnels which the cannula needle goes in). It would not work on Wednesday even though it felt like the needle was in the right place  So we rushed to the hospital again where one of the nurses put a sharp one in above the old hole.

We did have a successful dialysis luckily, but in trying to put a sharp needle in the old hole I managed to "pop" through the other side and cause a small hematoma. It's almost gone now, and it didn't cause any trouble, but I always dread popping the fistula.

Today I tried the buttonhole again but it would not work, so it looks like we have to form yet another new one (the third in just over a year). Sir has an appointment with His renal doc on Monday and so we are going in early for another ultrasound to check there is no narrowing....the pressures on the machine were good so I can't see that being the problem, just the buttonhole stuffing up I guess.

Sir smokes pot (a few very small cones only) so He can sleep while He's on dialysis. With one arm out of action I have to pack them and light them for Him :) Today I must have "inhaled" the second hand smoke because after each bong session I found myself very sleepy and had to have three nanna naps today  Now I don't know if He was blowing the smoke at me on purpose or not, but I did have a less stressful day than usual! :D

Sir is going to the private hospital tomorrow morning for a fistulagram and possible angioplasty if it has narrowed up again. Next week there is the pre admission for the colonoscopy which will hopefully take place on Aug 17th (depending on the availability of a bed).

Good news from the renal doc, Sir's blood tests were good and He doesn't have to go again for 7 weeks :cattail:

I have had bloods done to find out if I am in the middle of menopause  I've been having the odd hot flash especially when I'm in the 7 day break from my pills. I don't want to stop taking them, I could cope with irregular periods but heavy bleeding no way  Hopefully the doctor will have some good suggestions as to what I can do.....IF I need to stop taking them.....

*sigh* Well the blood results were all good, EXCEPT my cholesterol is 6.3  :( So it looks like I'll have to change my diet a bit - NOT HAPPY JAN (Aussie saying!). Weight and BP are fine (130/80 today).

I also have an appointment with a cardiologist, to check out why when I do cardio exercise like boxing, skipping or running my heart rate goes up so fast - over 180bpm. Sir goes to her and so I asked to be referred to her too. Dr Jane is lovely, and I'll be seeing her next Thursday, only a week to wait how wonderful :)

Sir's fistulagram has been put off til Monday because of a mix up with making the appointment (my fault, I rang the wrong place but no one gave me the correct number to ring in the first place  ).

So it's been one of those days all round....please let it be a better one tomorrow! *prays*

No it wasn't your fault at all as were were only given the form but no info on what the right phone number was so you made a guess as to what was the most logical one, the person taking the booking call never said they don't do fistulagrams & took the booking so several ppl screwed up not you!

BANDIT:heart: is setting up the machine for me to enjoy another fun filled 8 hours hooked up to it & I have no doubt in BANDIT's abilities so no worries about anything she does.

We had some problems with dialysis today but managed to do the full 8 hours with reduced pump speed. Sir has the fistulagram tomorrow so hopefully any narrowing or clotting in the fistula can be fixed asap.

On a happier note we had a lovely time yesterday afternoon with some long overdue "us" time and a nap into the bargain   Sometimes the medical stuff overshadows everything else so it was great to "connect" ourselves again. Sir I will try not to wait so long next time!

Sir had the fistulagram/angioplasty yesterday afternoon. All went well and the fistula is buzzing along again, although not as strong as it did last time. He's dialysing tomorrow so we'll see how it goes then.

The doctor did ask how we managed to dialyse the day before - so it must have been really narrow  We did have some trouble with high arterial pressures and the machine alarming early on, but we flushed the cannulas and ran the machine on a lower pump speed and got Him through the 8 hours eventually!

This morning we spent 3 hours  at the pre admissions clinic for Sir's colonoscopy in 2 weeks' time. He's got to go into hospital the afternoon before for the prep because of His diabetes and renal failure, hopefully He'll be early on the list so He can go home early.

Thursday morning it's my turn, I get to go to the cardiologist for a check as to why my heart rate goes so fast when I do cardio exercise. Hopefully there's nothing too badly wrong!

Seeing how red faced you were when you got home from the boxing class @ the gym tonight I don't see how there could be a big problem anyway Dr Jane fixed me quick smart & I'm sure if there is a problem she will fix you too.
I'm as always here for you as you are for me my sweet lady.

Blowing just for minx but hope you'll share with BANDIT:heart: :D *snickering @ what you said*

lmao. I went red when I realised what I'd said!

Hope you are feeling well Gil and I've said this before, but its heartwarming to see what you two share. It is really lovely. :rose:

Thanks so much minx :rose: I've never been happier in my life despite everything we have to deal with :cattail:

All looks ok re my heart, but am having a stress test in a couple of weeks to see how quick my heart rate does go up and what an ECG shows when it's beating at 90 miles an hour

Dialysis going well since the angioplasty (ballooning). I'm going to try a blunt cannula in the new buttonhole tomorrow, it should be ready after about 10 goes with a sharp.

I had a phone call from my son the other day, he hasn't been well with a stomach complaint for a while but things have improved since he stopped drinking alcohol.....so I guess he's going teetotal from now on! It does have some benefits though, because he's going on a road trip soon with friends to Wellington to a beer festival - but as he won't be drinking he'll be going with the womenfolk on shopping trips and to movies etc.....way to get some female company son :D
He's also moving from the damp mold infested flat he was in to a much better one closer to work. I'm pleased about that because it really was disgusting from what he told me.....

I have had a day of being thoroughly spoilt :)

First a facial and an hour long massage - I haven't had a facial for about 2 years and it's about a year since I had a massage  We found the place the other day and booked me in, the lady who runs it is very experienced, very qualified and the whole experience was just wonderful :) I will be going back again in about a month, I think I could handle that much pampering ;)

Next Sir picked me up and we went out for lunch, then back home where I had a teeny little nanna nap....ok it was about an hour but I was so full and so relaxed after the massage....then we went out and got takeaway for dinner so I didn't even have to cook tonight :cattail:

It's kinda nice to do nothing all day! :D

that sounds blissful Bandit!

could do with a day like that too......is ages since i had a facial or a massage. I love being stroked too

glad you had a lovely pampering day....you deserve it :rose:

Well Sir got a bed at the hospital this afternoon, He will be having the colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon (we were hoping it would be done earlier but oh well  ). He sent me home at about 5pm, it was starting to get dark and windy and chilly and the car was parked about 1/2km away.

So I'm just about to cook my dinner (and thinking of Sir subsisting on clear fluids for another 20 hours or so :( ), and going to watch TV and surf the net.

It's too quiet here  :(

Thanks minxie....I think this will have to become a regular thing, Sir is insistent that I spoil myself now and then :)
I also spent around $200 on face care products  I have dark circles under my eyes and broken capillaries in my cheeks...I've only used these products for a couple of days and already these are less noticeable...money well spent I reckon :cattail:

Sir is now fully recovered from the colonoscopy...He had an upset tummy (felt pukey) yesterday but is back to eating normally again. He has an appointment at the clinic Friday week to discuss the results but from what He was told He had a couple of small polyps removed and nothing untoward was found *whew*

He is now at a mate's workshop getting a new master cylinder fitted to the car - I have no idea what that is except it's to do with the brakes
