Banned?

Well now I've just found out that I was banned for trying to find out who was creating the rooms with hate speech in the titles. Apparently, Lit mods will let the person creating hate speech rooms continue, but not someone trying to expose it.

That explains a lot.
You shouldn't investigate. Once you're in those rooms, you're in violation. You could have reported the hate speech itself directly to the mods.

Imagine it from our point of view. You, as moderator, join a room with a banned topic/name. There are multiple people in that room, each claiming to be undertaking 'investigative work'. How would you know which of those people are telling the truth? Equally, imagine you were of those people that are in that room for nefarious purposes, and you see a moderator join. I can guarantee everyone in that room then has a 'claim/reason' for why they are in aforementioned room.

Better to do as has been recommended and report that room without entering it.

Just a small reminder as well. We don't allow those rooms to remain open. As moderators, we do this voluntarily, we have our own personal lives, families and commitments so aren't always online. When we are, we're often dealing with multiple things at once, as soon as we are aware of rooms of the type you suggest they are closed immediately.
