blade play

Just wanted to post my thoughts on this...

People have mentioned different things in this thread. Needle play, blade play and cuttings. Just because you use a knife during play does not mean that you cut. If your going to use a knife, make sure it is either very sharp or very dull (no edge)! If you use a knife with a very dull blade, you cannot cut or is very hard to cut. If you use a very sharp knife and end up cutting, then the cut should be a "clean cut". A "clean cut" will not have jagged edges and will heal easier with less or no scarring. And if your going to use a knife for this type of play, it is a good idea to have a knife that is only used for this type of play. And if you still want to learn how to do this, FIND SOMEONE IN REAL LIFE WHO CAN SHOW YOU HOW!!!!!!

As for cuttings, you should not even attempt this without being shown how as the object is to draw blood!

Needles. You do not always draw blood when using needles. Once again, find someone who can show you how to do this all safely and properly!

If you want to try this yourself, you should get a big scary knife. A blind fold. And a letter opener. Let them see the knife and feel the flat of the blade against the skin. Blindfold them and then use the letter opener. I have also used a car key dragggd across the throat.

okay maybe I should make this clearer. I have had experence with blade play, live, with some one that I trust and has been around blades almost all of his life. It's something I really enjoy, but my Sir doesn't have the experence that I do with it. He's willing to try it with me when we get to play, but I think he's a bit nervous about it and I thought that maybe if there were some books or something that he could read that having a bit of knowledge about it before he gets ahold of me it might make him a bit less nervous.

I wish I could help but I know of no such sites. The lyrics below did catch my ear though and make me think of your thread.

"I'd rather bleed with cuts of love
Than live without any scars."

Wow, this post really hits me. I have a pair of throwers that are sharp and I do like to play with them, and have them used on my by some friends. The thing I'm worried about is that my Sir is not as familure with blades as I am. He's willing to indulge me, but I think he's a bit nervous about it, and that's never good when you're talking about sharp objects. I was really looking for some ideas on how to make him a bit less nervous, or perhaps more comfortable with the idea is a better way to fraze it. But your "try it yourself" tacktic has given me a few ideas. thanks :)

No dear..That's "Try it ON yourself" first.... And I picked it up on the instructional website where I got my introduction to the basic techniques of blade play... Not "cutting" BTW .... While I, like many folks who have led fairly active outdoor lives, have no objection to blood per se... The idea of bloodletting involves a feeling and level of ....intimacy..That I have not wished to indulge in yet... *grin* But then, the day is young...

Standard disclaimer...If you do something and kill/hurt yourself ..It's your own damn fault for being an idjit.

Okeeee... Once upon a time, seized with the idea of bladeplay...But lacking experience in that type of blade use.. I went in search of information on the WWW.
Which is what you want him to do.. Be sensible and go looking for information.

Now, being as this was quite a long time ago... I found a nice, informative, text info site... The "try it on yourself first" philosophy was expressed there as a safety thing.. I still use it as an example of a suitably sensible approach.
*grin*
Since that time I have used everything from an X-acto knife..... To an honest to Gods basket hilted rapier (special cases and long experience..I DON'T recommend either)... For bladeplay..

P.S. Just for the record.... I personally find the idea of a dull knife, at least slightly offensive..
*shrug*
Dull cutlery is the fastest way to get hurt that I know of...
In tool use, a dull edge will skip or slide, but damned if it isn't always sharp enough to cut the hell out of yourself.
As a weapon.....Well duh..
As a tool for play... A dull edge can lead a person of less experience to have a "wrong" attitude about the blade. Which can cause "accidents"... Also it can build bad habits...

Forgive me, I did mean "try it on yourself" . It's a very sinceable thing really and something I've heard my friends and some of the regulars at my shop say. From blades to floggers, it seems to me that almost all of the tops there try them out on themselves, and may even have their bottem try it on them, and on themselves, before they use it on said bottem. It really just makes since to me, seems like the best way to know how the tool will feel and works and so on. *shrug*
And I agree with the dull edge. From the time I was a child I've been told that the most dangerous knife is a dull knife. Sharp or non edged I think is the only way to go, and since it's not leagel to sell blades where he's at, I will be the one buying the knife. :cathappy: I'm thinking soon too, so that I can mail it to him and let him get a feel for it before I visit. I've even been playing with the idea of sending him one of my set of two throwers, that way I know exactly how the blade feels and such. Either way I will have a match to what ever I buy for him....just cause I'm sure I'll love it too :D I'll keep on in my search and thank you, everyone, for what information you have shared. :)
