Blood and Fire (Intrest/OCC)

Hmmmmmmmm... if you make a female sellsword, you may have trouble getting people to hire her, going by the mysoginistic aspect of Westerosi society.

But what about the captain of a renowned mercenary group hired by a Westerosi lord? There is a female mercenary captain in the latest book, and a lord from Westeros hiring mercenaries to fight for him may be easy enough to justify, particularly if you choose rich Houses to serve like the Arryns or the Lannisters.

Are you thinking of the Girl General Tyron sees when he's taken as a slave to the Seige? Because she's a Ghiscari general, not a sellsword. Ghis dosen't have that kind of level of sexual discrimination. Now, a Ghis lady... THAT has options.

The issue with sellswords is, right now, there isen't any war and, hence, no reason to hire them. Now, your company could be stewwing in King's Landing of Brother's Arms or White Harbor, or what not.

If you're still looking for people I'd like to try out my hand specially if you're cool being a little like flexible with things. I'm doing sofai RP on another forum and given the confinement it can be a bit just urgh so if we're cool being a little loose I'd be down.

I guess I'll use my current character setup for ease and throw in a noble unless we want to change it up.

Hadick Tolgor

House - Tolgor. The Tolgor family is a minor noble family loyal to House Umber.
Liege Lord - Eddard Stark
Profession - Knight
Appearance - 6'2, strongly built with light brown hair. He has a small beard growing of darker brown hair. His features are lean and stern.
Weapons - A longsword and a shield with the hammer and sword of House Tolgor emblazoned on it.

Tolgor Motto - Strong as Steel
Location - Steeliern - made up for RP purposes but it would be north west of Winterfel I believe is where I put it.

Bio- WIP (being modified due to tweaks for story stuff)

Hadick is the second son of Harron Tolgor. An aspiring swordsman even from a young age Hadick found himself in the shadow of his older brother Jordan. Jordan was first born and heir to the Tolgor line and so Hadick busied himself constantly with becoming a stellar swordsman and a good knight while his brother was groomed for true leadership of House Tolgor.

Hadick eventually grew to accept his role and enjoyed a life of travel through Westeros where his Northern tradition sometimes came into conflict with the Southern lifestyles but he did his best to remain a honorable and noble warrior though he is not without his shortcomings. He enjoys women especially Dornish or other exotic beauties and as any Northman he will enjoy beer in good portion.

That is a problem indeed, but what if they had been hired to do what modern mercenaries are often hired to do: as advisors and troop instructors?

Just to clarify, when I mentioned the possibility of a mercenary company, I did not mean something like hundreds of soldiers. Fourty men or even less could be cheap enough to keep around as a permanent hire. And yes, I know there are loyalty issues that stem from money being their foremost interest, but that does not necessarily make them disloyal if you can pay them generously when trouble starts brewing...

And now that I think about it, they don´t need to be official mercenaries. I wouldn´t put it past some nobles to use them as false pirates to prey on other Houses´ trade routes.

As for me, I had thought of playing as a daughter to Lysa Arryn: though older than Jon, she cannot replace him since she is a woman. But since everyone is aware that Jon has terrible health, is too young and his mother spoils him far too much, she might make a better heiress to the Vale in the minds of some nobles.

That´s for starters.

The later idea has much more merit... though I can sea pirates. In that case, though, they'd probably just hire Ironmen.... who are even more chauvnistic then then the rest of Westros.

However... the only issue in the later. She would TECHNICALLY qualfiy as heiress to the Vale if Robert died. However, by law, the Lordship would pass to her husband... and by Aegon, somebody would find her a husband. Perhaps the nice Algarith's of Crackleclaw Point?

Wait a second, so there isn't a place with the bastard surname Stone? Will have to read up to make sure.

But if Ironmen preyed on Westerosi ships, then the Starks would be called upon to punish them, wouldn´t they? Plundering a fishermen´s village may be one thing, but disrupting trade is something much more serious in a medieval society where the fastest trading route is the sea.

My idea for the character is that Lysa Arryn hates her daughter because she envies her beauty and youth, and does not want her to marry any noble because if she did, she would be able to gather support (however feeble that may be).

By keeping her single for as long as possible, Lysa deprives her of any chance she might have of usurping Robert´s position or rallying the support of the nobles. The idea of Robert dying never even dares to cross Lysa´s mind.

But she doesn't like the idea, does she? Runs away with a loyal servant, perhaps, to try to seek out a place where she can be uncloistered.... that is a good idea as well.

Makes a good place for meeting... Gulltown, perhaps.

Well, she is not crazy about staying single all her life, certainly.

You did say we would all meet at King´s Landing, though, if I remember correctly?

I said that was an option... and likely the best one. However, other can work out.

If she's in Kings Landing, though, things would get tricky; SOMEBODY would know who she was and would send her back if she tried to be a hang-on in court. She'd need to be doing SOMETHING outside it then, if she's running.

Calyth is currently tending to his family's situation in court, but he still goes to the Alchemist Guildhall as well... plus we have other to take into account. And I'd like to avoid the whole "tavern meeting over beers" cliche. Any ideas?

So I suppose I'm settling on something along a ghis mercenary captain working for some family. Not sure the exact details still. But I'm listening for some advice and whatnot.

My idea so far would be that Lysa sends her daughter away to King´s Landing to attend the matters of the Arryn family at court, but actually does it for two reasons: one, she cannot marry anyone in King´s Landing without Lysa´s consent, and if she does then Lysa can repudiate her. Two, if she is far from the Vale, she cannot maintain local support. Both good ways of keeping her from conspiring against Robert.

Admitedly, she could gain support in King´s Landing, enough to defy her own authority. But Lysa is off her rocker and that possibility simply wouldn´t cross her mind.

Frankly, playing as an Arryn would be the kind of "easy mode" in a videogame that you do not know about unless you read a guide on the Internet: the main obstacles on your path are a crazy woman and a sickly child, and the crazy woman sends you away because she thinks her own authority is beyond challenging.

As long as you know what to do, things are as easy to manage as playing a Lannister.

He he... I like it.

Now, we just need a profile, and I think we'll have enough to start

If Hadick is allowed in I'd be fine having her be like a traveling companion/quasi teacher for him. Being the second son and not likely to be ruling Hadick is really all about working on his swordsmanship so if your captain was known for her skills in a sword school really foreign to the North I could see Hadick working with her, kind of having her on retainer. Just an idea.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Something to be worked on but a good starting spot.

He's accepted... though, to be honest, eve a minor house like yours would have a Master at Arms. Being trained by a forgein mercenary in your basic skills might be a bit shameful...

Oh it wouldn't be his basic training he's way past that point. This would be sort of expanding his skill points with what Hadick would see as like a new challenge. Something maybe to use in tourneys where people would be like ah the second Tolgor son and his weird fighting style. Primarily he would likely just do the regular stuff but the potential to take his skills up a notch would be hard to resist.

Alright... we've got a Taragaryan talking to me, and once she's ready, I think we'll start the IC.

Note; This dosen't close the thread. The more the merrier. And (I can't believe I'm saying this), we seem to be short on men.

Name: Alyss Targaryen

Titles: Lady, Exile, Banished, Outcast

Age: 21

Position: Exile and Outlaw, to be killed on sight

Height: 5'11

Weight: 110lbs

Appearance: Lady Alyss possesses the classic platinum hair of House Targaryen, and Lilac eyes, she has taken to dying her hair to disguise the classic family trait, though she is limited to whatever she can get her hands on at any given time and this can change from time to time. Unfortunately she has no way of hiding the colour of her eyes, so usually wears her hood up, trying to distract attention from the distinctive hue.

She is tall and slim, but her face, once beautiful, is drawn and gaunt, evidence of hard times when she has been forced to scavenge to survive. She has an acrobatic form, and is lithe and possesses a deceptive wiry strength born from survival. She wears old and worn clothes, faded and battered, but still intact, testament to their original fine quality. At her waist hang an increasingly lightening money pouch a battered and much used short sword in a badly fitting leather sheath and a long skinning knife. To cover this and keep her warm on the frequent outdoor nights she wears a long, dark traveling cloak and hood. The rest of her worldly possessions are kept in a small pack and bedroll that rarely leaves her side.

Personality: Alyss' personality is born of neccessity, as Viserys' younger sister she was a danger to the new order, and was smuggled out by an ever loyal Septa, the old man didn't make it far and she fled, chasing rumours of her family across the Narrow Sea. She is sharp and untrusting, having seen a great deal of death, and escaped much herself, she isn't one to open up about herself or her past. She is almost excessively cautious, never willing to rush into something for fear of capture or death, and can often miss out on chances because of her careful nature. Despite this caution and her patience, she does have a somewhat short fuse with people, her temper is sharp and vicious and has sometimes lost her the few friends she has accumulated. But she has grown tired of running, the Targaryen were once a mighty line, and she has returned to seek friends.

Skills: Fieldcraft - Alyss has had to survive in the wilds often, with few friends and numerous enemies she has had to travel away from any main travel routes or population centres. She has learnt to hunt all sorts of wild animals and is adept at silent movement and stealth in the wilds.

Bladework - With a skill born of experience and desperation Alyss is an able fighter with both sword and knife and as a women, surprise at her ability can often spell the death of her opponents. Though she is more than capable of looking after herself, she stays away from anything larger than a small town, avoiding the chances of being cornered by large numbers of town guards.

Sleight of hand - Alyss has to steal to survive, and has learned to pick locks or simply help herself to their owners keys or indeed, money bags.

Accepted.

Writing IC Post now... stay tuned.

Is it to late to sign up?

Read all five books and love to troll people who just watch the HBO series, interested in maybe bringing the Dorne angle to the current storyline, kinda partial to being a member of Starfall Hall but if I have to, I don't mind painting "Ours Is The Fury" on everything I see :p
