Boot black?

I told janey about using Vegemite as a substitute for shoe wax in a mind fuck scene.

Her comment:

"I'd rather eat the shoe polish"

*LMAO*

Is it that bad? I like tapenade, which is made of black olives and pretty salty...

Though I suppose if I gag on it, that just makes it hotter. ;)

did ya at least take pictures?

Something about licking vegemite off a belt for a stranger on the other side of the planet sort of distracted me.

That and I was mid prepping for a dinner party thang , there was stuff going on everywhere, havoc mode. Simply didn't cross my mind, perhaps later I might put together a vegemite exhibition . Then I'll go get a life.

Nothing like tapenade ( which I adore also ), I really have to say that Vegemite has to be perfect considering the cultural palate differences. If you're not used to it and lick it off someones boot you will have no idea it's in a food group. It will taste kind of awful but at the same time not if that makes any sense. So in the sense of a mind fuck scenario I think we have the perfect vehicle. You could push it either way quite easily.

Hopefully Catalina will weigh in with a comment, we're both Australian and both grew up with vegemite. I didn't mind testing it for you, it was a funny distraction in a chaotic day and I am already aware it's a difficult purchase in the U.S. As I suggested it initially it was the least I could do.

What does this stuff taste like? Salt? Seaweed? Ground up multivitamin? Soy Sauce? What?

I would have described it as an umami flavor because it's very difficult to define. Most fermented food fall into this flavor compound. There is a vague overtone of Vitamin B to it : chuckles : Mmmmmnyummy

I just did a Google search "umami + vegemite"

"Experience and learn about the savoury taste called umami – a taste well known in Asian cuisines however it is not well known that dishes and foods consumed in all cultures have the umami taste. Vegemite is the ultimate umami taste in Australia. Join Mr Shingo Suzuki – Executive Chef Kobe Jones (London), Mrs Kumiko Ninomiya – Director Umami Information Centre (Tokyo) and local food experts from the University of Adelaide, Dr Barbara Santich (food historian) and Dr Sue Bastian (food and wine scientist) for the ultimate umami experience."

Can I just mail you some, say as a thankee for jewellery par excellence ?
