Challenge 09 V.2 new word

hey, I forgot to ask...a while ago you mentioned a lecture you were going to. What was it on and how was it?

Yep it was last night at the Performing Arts Center, Robert Crumb, Art Speigelman and his obnoxious wife, Francosise Mouly. Eh, it was interesting for the most part, I actually went to hear R. Crumb but I knew he wouldn't say a lot, mostly it was Speigelman and his wife tooting there own horn, But had some interesting moments. They went through his work on the graphic novel Maus and all the rejected covers for the New Yorker Magazine. She's the art editor of the mag.

It was on the underground comics movement it's roots till present... also a great discussions on Harvey Krutzman and the early days of Mad Magazine... they showed a lot of the old strips, some published and some not. That, was awesome

oh MAN! that sounds exciting! Do you know if it was a one time event or will they be presenting at any other venues? I would love to attend this. I certainly do not know enough or even much about the underground comics movement but would really like to learn more.

Did you get to hear enough from R. Crumb - to your semi satisfaction? haha horn tooting (eye roll)

The history and retrospective would be worth it most likely.

Well, I did yeah, he's such an insecure little guy... Nope this was the last venue on their tour, Robert is out promoting his newly illustrated book of Genesis! He's headed home to Aline and Sophie in France.

darn.

I need to look around here for more events like that. Just moved here though and still getting the lay of the land STS (so to speak) The university is about 15-20 minutes away and there is a really nice museum the same distance in another direction.

My classes are in the downtown area about 25 minutes away.

Are/did you go to the Art on the Street?

Do you have a favorite medium?

There's a big gallery/art studio area here south of downtown. I haven't gotten there yet.

hey I can relate. I'm not a gregarious type either.

I'm working on a "CUP" idea btw.

Yay! I may go tomorrow the parking sux down there and there will be huge crowds.

I usually stick to ink and or pencil although I used to paint, watercolors and acrylics

I submitted my 'cup' pretty simplistic but I liked it but I did better with' Key'

but im really doing more with ink. maybe markers or colored pencils next!

I love to cross hatch but still need more practice at it. Pointillism also fascinates me!

yay on the art street.

yes some of that media is pretty messy...it helps to have a separate work area (so you can close the door to contain the mess) . . . and a sink. but that sort of set up isn't always easy to come by.

Are you thinking of trying different media/technique for each entry?

at the moment I'm going for what ever is gonna be fastest.

I got to meet R. Crumb at my alma mater, SVA, waaaaay back in the late 80's when he was a guest speaker here. I dunno how he is now, but back then he was a cool guy, very straight-up about the sex element in his works. It's amazing and great how he and his 70's era contemporaries are still cranking out stuff to this day.

No more, yet.
Thanks....This stone has been the longest... but also the largest (though not very large as they go).

Excellnet! on being finished. I am pretty happy with my "key" concept. :D

HEY! There's an Irezumi sighting!

Hopefully he will have an entry for both "cup" and "key" :D

Irezumi!

Hey he's still kinda quirky, but still drawing he's changed his image a little so no more fedora, but still very outspoken about the problems with censorship and politics in America even though his wife Aline made them move to France! Haha! but it was good to see him and listen to them re-hash the old days techniques etc...

his new work The illustrated book of Genesis is all crosshatched... took him 3 years to complete it, man!

i hope y'all are having a good Sunday afternoon. :) Throbbs, i'm sorry to hear you are still in pain. hope you get to feeling better one of these days. Austin, you have already completed Key?! damn. i need to get to work on mine. i've been slacking.

Yep! I like my 'key' entry better than my 'cup' but I tend to be to damn critical of anything I do...

Thanks. Overall , I do feel better. Right now I am pretty comfortable...just some sore back. My Xray on.... uh.. Thursday? showed (or didn't show) that the stone had passed the ureter...but it seeme dto be still IN me...likely bouncin' about in the bladder... looking for the exit. Which is down my very long (HAHAHAAHA will feel like it, anyway) urethra.

Yeah...was wondering about self induced "Shrinkage"...cold shower or something, but the other consequence would probably be constriction...so... I'll go for long loose rather than short tight..... as if I have any choice!!

Seems to be a drink and wait and drink and drink and drink and wait
