For me a corset is a type of restriction and bondage. Not only are they sexy but you are constantly aware of whats on you and it is almost as if it is a sense of control that you have very little control of. That and i think they are absolutely beautiful. Still want that denim one...oh maybe someday.

Kitminx said:I love corsets!! As a sometime burlesque dancer and goth club afficianado, they are the foundation of my costumes, and my favorite way to create the waist I seem to have missed the line for. Thus far, Ive only worn the inexpensive FOH type, but I reinforced one with steel bones of my own, which helped. I am actually having somewhat of a comical crisis regarding my upcoming birthday present to myself, a Kitchenaid industrial mixer or a House of Worship sweetheart overbust in black on black striped satin...ooh the pain of it all they cost about the same.

Kitminx, congrats on improving your FOH corset by adding steel boning. The main difference between a play corset and a real corset is what the boning is made of - anything from VS or Frederick's is going to have plastic boning and thus isn't much more than a plaything. (I don't mean to sound elitist, I know many people don't have the money for a real corset or don't choose to spend their money on one...but the fact is that plastic boning is not a real corset.)
Great time for a bump to this thread, btw. I recently received my new one from Meschantes (their Victorian Overbust, fully custom) and yesterday we took some pictures.
The full set is here, but here is a preview:

But the 38 was just a little too small, so I figured I'd wait a month and I might try it again. But omg did I love the feel of that new stiff corset.
coy_one said:Etoile, I loved your corset so much, I made mine modeled after yours in a black dupioni silk (I'm a seamstress). Too bad I don't have any pictures of the corset with my naked ass covered.LOL

My mom scolded me for thinking about buying one when I could make one for myself. I just have a very hard time making things for myself for some reason. *shrug*
coy_one said:It cost me nearly $150 in supplies. THat's reason enough to have someone else make it for you. LOL

Looking good! Was that your first corset project? Have you sewn clothes before? Corsets are very difficult from what I understand, and I wouldn't even consider making one myself, it's much too hard. (I don't sew at all!)coy_one said:Okay, here I am in my black silk dupioni corset.

SweetGigi said:I have this one from Frederick's too. Its nice but like it was mentioned before, the boning is plastic. I would love to replace the boning in it (as well as in my others) with something more stiff, but not as stiff as steal. I know true bones where once used-- what else could be used to be more ridged than what it has now but not as constrictive as steal?
