Crafty Litsters show your work!

yup.
And in case they don't fit or I want to adjust something, I can just re-melt them.
It looks crazy and a bit intimidating, but large cable ties are great for measuring.

(Standing in the workshop with the trousers around your ankles and a cable tie around your balls is not something you want witnesses to!)

Lady C found the Krummschwanzgerät entertaining by the way, but also considered it to be a bit disrespectful to The Honorable Worm.
.... it is quite clear who only has the fun, and doesn't have to lug the thing around.

Laughing at the mental pic of C in the workshop with dropped trou!

Trust me, reality was not any prettier!

Regarding being creative, I have actually found time again to play with silver.
Unfortunately the results ended up on people with whom I have no kinky connections, and that means I can't post the pictures.

I hand painted flight bags for my sis and her husband.
I would post pics but they are, naturally, one offs and thus quite identifiable.

Yesterday I stopped by a shop that will sell handcrafted items. The lady wanted to know if I was active on social media.
I really wish I had not listened when I was told "you can make those and sell them". Sure. I can make them. But selling them? Not so easy. Not when most people want cheaply made goods. But damn, I still like to make things. I love the hum of my sewing machine

Maybe it's not a great idea to s3ll them.
I've found that asking for what things are worth isn't what these interested expect.
The few things I've made for payment the buyer was told to pay what it was worth to them.
It seemed to help me, hope it helps if you decide to sell.
Don't let them dull your light! Crafting is my out space most of the time.

Here is a chessboard that I finished today. Maple, Walnut and Spalted Sycamore.

I had some votive candles that had burned down but still had good scent. I usually pull the wick and the metal clip and then burn them as tarts in my hot pots. Well, I had all these chunks and they were kind of ugly and unruly.

So, I melted them down and poured them into my candy/baking silicon mold and now have lovely little tarts for my hot pot.

I may start doing it with all my hot pot waxes

I built this about 15-16 years ago. I call it my 2-inch Highboy because almost everything on it is either 2 inches wide or a multiple of 2. It's 6 feet tall and made of Red Birch with Maple drawers.

I did cheat and use ply for the case sides & back since it is utilitarian. I built a matching jewelry chest a bit over a decade ago. If I were to make another (I won't) I'd probably skip the ply and use solid wood panels. And, I'd skip the dovetails on the drawers too (they were a pain and add nothing).

I disagree. They show craftsmanship and attention.
I have yet to see an episode of Antiques Roadshow that they didn't crow over dovetails.

The thing about dovetails is that they are A method of joinery. Not the only method, just a method. Box joints (also called finger joints) are a different method which accomplishes the same purpose. That of putting long grain wood fibers in contact with other long grain wood fibers so that the adhesive will hold better/longer.

There are plenty of antiques which do not have dovetail joints.

I was fooling around in the Castle Cumference workshop this afternoon.

Because I just wanted to do som casting and soldering, I made a set of "alternative wedding bands"

:)

The important thing is to educate your audience! Explain (in positive terms) why your items are better than inexpensive imports (aka, in my world, Cheap Chinese Crap). What makes your work stand above mass-produced items? Expound upon that, but also realize that there are those who will buy at Tiffany's and those who will buy at JCPenney, either by situation or choice. Find your niche market and work them!

This. But there are some caveats.

Your target market needs to be viable. That means it has to have a good influx of new consumers on a regular basis.

Take, for instance, bridal shops. Every year there are new clients for them to cater to. It's a never ending stream of new customers who are looking for that "special" item.

The same could be said for Prom gowns or designer shoes/belts/purses/quilts and homegoods/etc. Not so much for designer dresses for antique Scandinavian dolls (yes, there may be a market, but how big is it really?).

Find your niche market. Study it well. Deliver what they want. Business 1A.
