That way, someone who {for whatever perverse reason} really wants to know what the troll said can figure it out, but people who casually come across the comment won't be offended.

On some boards, the board owner lets the offensive comments remain, but "disemvowels" them.Acquiring a permanent following of trolls, or even of only one troll, shows you've arrived as an author. If you find any of their rantings sufficiently offensive personally, by all means remove them.
