Dropbox links

I have still not heard a reason why Dropbox was singled out to be banned. Is there someone else I should be asking? I did send a PM to Manu, but have not heard back.
I think he’s the right person to message. You could also try Laurel. In my experience, they are slow to respond to PMs and often will take action (if a PM request warrants such) without replying. I do know they read them.

I don’t have an answer for Drop box. I wish I did. Drop box is what I have used to post images or share an image in PM, as well.

Thanks just sent a PM to Laurel.

Well this just sucks, anyone can download a picture and modify it and post it, so why was dropbox singled out?
What other forums do others use where one can chat and share pictures?

Guess this thread did violate the rules since someone has now deleted it. So it appears that posting only the link address in words violates the Pic policy as well.
Given the status of the reports in my report queue right now, safe to assume you are advocating for all of these threads to be nuked?

Although, the attached from the AmPic rules seems to say there was nothing wrong with the thread:
You can post links to images found elsewhere on the Internet. HOWEVER, we reserve the right to warn or ban you if we feel you are
1) spamming/advertising for another site/product/etc. or
2) you repeatedly post linked images which stretch the screen.
We also will remove links to images upon request from copyright holder. If, after we do so, you replace the image, we may ban your account.

I just received a rejection of a report I made on a Hamster link that was posted and went to a masturbation video and told not to abuse the reporting system. Why are these links ok and Dropbox links not ok?

Have you ever stopped to wonder if it was Dropbox who decided they didn't want their links here and NOT Literotica?

You can't even put Google images here.

My sincere apologies to the mod and one mod unparticular that monitors more than one forum. I reported a lot of posts to test the rules. All I did was load the mods down with a lot of work they did not need. The issue is really one that Manu or Laurel should clarify and since my PM's to them have gone unanswered, I assume they do not consider this something worth their attention. Again, my apologies to the Mods.

The mods have been pretty clear that they don’t know what is going on yet. It’s not fun to wait, but I think some patience is warranted here. We don’t even know for sure that it was intentional or that the site owners know what is going on (I could make a case that there’s some weird bug at play.) I also don’t think that having other hosting sites banned really benefits anyone.

I can feel your frustration and I get it. Switching hosting sites is a huge pain. I remind myself that Lit is a lovely free site though, so I need to temper any personal preferences or frustrations.

Just my unsolicited two cents :D

Yep. I don't think I have ever followed a Dropbox link that lead me to believe it was anything other then the person posting their own content, but we still have very prolific posters that either post a link or image that are taken from another site with the sites watermark or website url clearly visible.
Hopefully we get an answer soon.

The problem with DB was likely the explicit content. There were a few who posted overly explicit content here as attachments. When the pictures started getting pulled, the posters moved to DB. At least one of those members has now been escorted off Lit due to so many violations and violence laden posts. For all we know, it may have been DB that contacted Lit and asked to be blocked.

It's unlikely we'll ever know for sure either way. Lit Admin is not known for that type of clarity.

I get it. I am guilty of pushing some of the posting rules using DB myself, but I'm still baffled that DB links were targeted when so many other posters are posting pics and links that are clearly from other websites.
The user ID I am posting with now is my third ID. I started posting here on the BB's back in 2004 and have seen similar actions taken in the past with no explanation. Just sucks that members of Lit. that are posting their own content are being shut down while others that are clearly posting images and links from other sites are not being censored and shut down.

So I guess we are forced to find another platform to share pictures...no more Dropbox for me now.
What is everyone's recommendation?

Best to go with whatever the mods decide I suppose. There are other platforms more geared to private chat, and this one is supposed to be erotic literature, with a forum.

How about you abide by the rules of so many sites and just NOT post those kinds of images?

I mean, aren't you getting the hint? Is it going to take you being arrested or sued to get the point across?

Dropbox is private cloud storage for any purpose, like Drive and many others.
As such, content that is linked to on these sites is unmoderated at source.
Dropbox is not being singled out in any way.
Like many other sites and apps, I expect Lit is taking steps to protect itself, by allowing linking only to sites that have their own media moderation.
It's understandable, and many others have done the same in recent times.
Direct uploads to public forums can be directly moderated here.
It also protects users from porn blackmail scams, which have happened on other sites.
Link sharing also includes options of which some users will not be aware, such as the ability to access media metadata via the link, providing location and identity information about the poster that a blackmailer could use, by threatening to send the poster's nude pics to their family or employer.

I haven't seen an example yet, but you guys have been told many, many, many times not to post explicit images or those you don't own the rights to. There is no exception for remote hosted images, no matter how you choose to misread the rules.

And no, this would not be the only, or first site to be blocked. I can think of several over the years. When one gets blocked, people seek out another to keep breaking Lit rules.

This picture has no nudity. No sex depicted.
It's my dog.

Let's see how it works.

This is so frustrating as we can no longer forward our personalised audio hypnosis sessions, which by definition, are incapable of displaying any prohibited images!

This has led to a lot of disappointed Lit users and seems overly censorious.

To all our hypnotees, thank you for your patience and understanding as we shall now find alternative arrangements. At least our subliminal spiral videos are unaffected...for the moment.

Your posts make it sound like you're selling something.
