For my primary writing tool I use LyX which is a very complicated piece of software that sits on top of other complicated pieces of software and is typically used in academic circles etc for laying out scientific papers. What does this mean? Do you mean online? What's an example? I typically draft documents in Word on my desktop and then upload the file. I don't ever use special formatting so it's not a big deal, but I've noticed that my stories seem to take a little longer to get published than those of some other published authors so I'm wondering if doing this in a different way would speed up publishing times.
When you respond, keep in mind that while I like to think I'm a fast learner I am not a techie person and you cannot assume I share any of your knowledge of techie vocabulary.
I use it because it is remarkably good at not trying to force dumb stuff on my formatting.
For a text editor (stage 2), I use Sublime Text: https://www.sublimetext.com/download
I write my draft in Lyx.
I then copy + paste it to Sublime Text because the change of application helps show errors.
I then copy + paste from Sublime Text into the Lit new story doohickey.
So for your flow:
1. write in Word for spellcheck + grammar
2. copy + pate to sublimetext (or notepad) to strip any and all formatting and nonsense
3. put italics between and bold between
4.

does just that
5. copy + paste to lit, click save draft, and then you can preview / tweak.
I've never used RTF upload and I won't ever do so having heard all the horror stories around it.
Does that give a better picture of what I'm doing?
