Erm.. hi. A question-

Oh and... since you mentioned beaches... I am rather proud of our beaches here in Greece, I hope you'll consider them as a possible summer vacation sometime :D

We are planning on going to one of the Greek islands this year. My husband LOVES it in the Greek Islands. He has been there but I haven't.

I also want to visit Greece itself sometime.

Are you Greek or did you just end up living in Greece? Are you from the Greece or one of the Greek Islands?

I know this will be hard to believe, but many many many moons ago, when I had just started posting on lit, the GB was one of only seven forums, and the general forum was considered a fun and nice place to be.

Are you the one who started the Darkroom Lounge?

I guess one good thing about being a child of a parent who is in the mlitary is that you could possiably see the world.

My mom was in the army, but it was before I was born. She never got to see the world, but she did get to work in the pentagon.

Did you get to see any other countries while you were a kid?

During our stay in Italy we twice drove around Europe and visited several countries. I love travelling and of course distances are not an issue when you already are in Europe.
I've been to Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, England. And once, back in 1980, to the States :)

I suggested it, and many of the poster on the am feedback forum thought it was a good idea. So I talked to the siteowners about it, and they agreed to create it.

I am Greek, born in the mainland, but we love vacationing in the islands.
I need to drive my kid to her gym. I'll be back and link you to a few of our vacation photos.

I thought maybe you had a part in creating since you are the moderator and this is the only forum I see a moderator in.

I much prefer this board to any other moderatored board on regular message boards. I was posting at one other message board and stopped posting there due to people being fake. Everytime I try an new message board they are a little too strict in my opinion.

At first I didn't want to post on this message board because I was worried that someone I know might come across this site and see my posting and with me being an American I thought I would be shamed for my whole life. I'm glad I started posting here. It's the only board I've been to where it's not so darn strict.

Now as much as I can't stand high school drama, I like how people have a choice weather thay want to be a part of hte high school drama or not. After all America and Europe is suppose to have a freedom of speech.

So you didn't visit Holland.

I don't want to ever visit England after the way the treated me in the airport and they way some English people treat me here in Holland. I'm always getting corrected on words. For istants most Americans say tomato as "toe-mate-toe" and the British say it as "toe-mat-toe". Well they seem to correct me on stuff like that.

When Healthrow airport they were very mean to me. I had trouble finding the gate number I needed to go to so I asked. No one wanted to help me behind the desk and I finally got a person who didn't work there to help me. He said something that they can be rude in the airport. I noticed that I left my purse with my ID and some money it it at customs. I went to a desk to ask if they could bring up my purse from customs. They desk directed me to another desk. When I went to that desk that desk directed me back to the origional desk I came from. I went back there and they got mad at me saying they told me I needed to go to the other desk. I told them teh guy told me to come to this desk. They got all pissy and went to the desk and started a fight with the guy at the other desk. They kept arguing about who's job it was to help me. I was running late so I never got my purse. I had to pay over 10 Euros for customs to mail me my purse the next day.

I would like to go to Ireland (I have Irish roots), Scotland (even though their accent is difficult to understand at times), and Wales, but I don't ever want to go back to England again.

Have you visited the Netherlands?

I still want to visit Germany and Belgium sometime. I still haven't got a chance even though they are both only about a 2 or 3 hour train ride away.

I'm not too instrested in going to Paris. The only thing I want to see in Paris is the Notre Dame (spelling?).

Where in the USA did you visit?

I also want to go to Hawaai, India, and Singapore. So my list of places I want to visit includes cities in Italy, Greece, The Greek Islands, Germany, Belgium, Hawaai, India, and Singapore.

I also semi want to go to Indonesia, because my husbands grandparents are from there and his grandmother still has family in Indonesia. I wouldn't mind meeeting the family but they are from a very poor village and there is no shower or any real beds. I don't know if I have the guts to live that lifestyle for about a week ro two. My husband was there when he was about 2-years-old so that his grandmother's and grandfather's familes could see him. His parents have been there a few times.

Cool!

I have to make dinner soon.

My husband told me that the people in the Greek island are really great people. I'm assuming it's the same for the mainland people as well.

The Greek culture is my second favorite culture. They share a lot of traits with the Italians.

Ok, Halkidiki is on the mainland up north, Pelion on the mainland a little more to the south, the rest are islands.

In the USA I only visited Los Angeles. Quite an impressive city... or rather an assortment of cities, that's what it looked like to me.

Paris I know much better, I spent four months there after I graduated from university, that was spring of 1982. Mostly to practice the language and for some fun time before I started working. Another amazing city but you need to spend some time there to really appreciate it.

Thank you for showing me the pictures. They are really beautful.

The islands kind of remind me of Sicily. My husband told me the sand is better in the Greek Islands.

I want to learn small sentences in Greek before going ot the Greek Islands. I know they speak English there but I feel it's respect to the culture to learn a little bit of their language before going to visit their country.

I have to start making dinner shortly, so I'm going to look through your pictures more later on tonight or tomorrow.

I prefer to visit the South of France. The people seem a lot more friendlier there.

I do want to see the Notre Dame though. Am I even spelling that correctly? I do not do good with the French language.

I was born in the spring of 1982. Well almost spring.

Any time you need help with Greek words, just say so.
Most people speak some English or good English here but generally us Greeks are charmed whenever foreigners take the time to learn a few words, no matter how few or how brokenly spoken, it's a good idea... only, fair warning, it IS a difficult language :D

Yes, I saw that in your profile... I could easily be your mom.... :D

Correct spelling and yes I agree with you, I'd love to visit the French countryside sometime as well as the English countryside.

Ya, I've herad Greek spoken and I can't really figure out how to pronounce what they are saying. Maybe it's because they speak fast.

I do know I am determain to learn small things in Greek before going to Greece or the Greek Island. Italian is a lot easier, but I'm sure I can figure out small words and sentences in Greek.

What is hello and goodbye in Greek?

Well I've always found it easier to talk with older people. A lot of people my age still aren't fully mature.

There was an elderly woman who had breast cancer that I was very close to. She passed away in 2002. When my husband and I decide to have kids and if we have two girls the second girl will be named after her.

Okay. Now I really should start on dinner. :catroar:

Greece and the Greek islands are one and the same country.

An informal way for both Hello and Goodbye is Yassou
Otherwise,
Kalimera (good morning)
Kalispera (good evening)
Kalinichta (good night)

That will be 15 Euro please

Okay well I've started the potatos I need to start for dinner and there's about another 20 minutes before my husband comes home to eat dinner, so I figured I would stay on a tad bit longer.

I remember now my husband telling me what good evening in Greek was. The good morning, good evening, and good night seem easy enough. At least I'll know how to say that.

I'm assuming I would use the former ones if I was on vacation.

is the chta part at the end of kallinchta said as "cato" or does it has the ch sound like in the English language?

Okay, my husband is home sooner than I thought, so now I shall officially leave the compture for right now. haha

The -chta part is tricky to explain, it's something between a strong H and a soft K... you can say it Kalinikta and it's still perfectly correct.

Enjoy the evening with hubby. I just brought my kid back from gym and will be spending some time with her.

Talk to you again soon :)
