Without taking sides here, I'm going to say that there is a certain amount of baiting going on here that men are not going to pick up on, and that not mentioning a name but saying "Someone said..." IS somewhat derogatory. If it had been phrased "Nicole brought up the point that...", it would have come across as less accusatory, more like the start of a discussion. I've been in a situation where another person made comments that in context of the situation were hurtful, but were phrased in such a way that when I tried to explain it to others no one else understood why I was upset.
I'm not taking sides. I just want to make clear that my first post was about BOTH parties bumping heads - I don't want anyone to think I was singling out Nicole because I was not. Whispersecret could have phrased her opening post a little less pointedly. Nicole could have chosen not to respond to this thread. It's a personality conflict that's being turned into a war by people who are choosing to take one side or another. I don't want either of these two women to end up leaving the board because the rest of us drive them off it - they're both supporters of the site, and are assets.
Let it go. It's between them. And when (if) this happens again, let's all restrain our urge to jump in between them and take sides. That only makes the situation bigger than it really is.
Now that the horse is a mushy mess, I'm gonna go find something else to beat on.

I just learned that a lot of stuff can be said in a day and a half when somebody gets fired up. This thread is a really interesting read. Seems to answer WhisperSecret's challenge that it seems to be OK to fall in luv, but NOT OK to get angry! Plenty of people did NOT walk on by this one.

Ok...here's the deal...yes, some people have "friends" they have met here that they converse with off the board. Some have even "fallen in love". However, I am extremely sick and tired of it getting thrown in our faces all the time. I think we are all old enough to understand this somewhat simple concept. If not, let me 'splain it again.
We've had posts almost identical in nature to this one. Yes, some people take things to heart, some people blow it all off. We are all individuals, we can not all have the same reactions to the same things as everyone else does. Where one person thinks this is all just in fun, and takes everything in stride; there will be that person who has to take every statement personally. If two people fall in love, two more people will grow to hate one another.
The "cyber world" IS part of my life, but if I took every damn thing posted on this board to heart, I'd be a basket case. I have been ridiculed, laughed at, yelled at, and agreed with both on the board, and off of it. But I do not have to let it affect me, as I can see it has affected some others. This is NOT my life. I'm not here to impress any of you. If you like me, that's nice; if you don't, I don't care. Anyone who comes on here thinking everyone will like them, is delusional. If you can't accept that others have feelings opposing yours, you need help. If you can't understand how some form close bonds while others don't, then you need to understand that this ISN'T everyone's total and complete obsession; believe it or not, some people come here just to laugh at everyone else taking everything so seriously.
Personally, when I read the opening post, I took it as WS baiting Nicole. Any time you quote a person, there is always the possiblility that they will take that quoting as a "threat" or as a "challenge", especially if you use said quote as an opening for another post. Stating it as "someone said..." only adds to the feeling of animosity. I think we all understand that these two individuals don't get along.

This is exactly what I was talking about... Nicole and Whispersecret have a disagreement. So then Weird Harold and True American have to disgree. Then Lasher and WH have to disagree. Now you and I have to disagree. And for what, exactly? Will all of us fighting resolve the differences between Nicole and WS? Unlikely.
It's one thing if we're talking about gun control or nuclear power or anal sex and we all debate the issues and get heated up. It's quite another for two BB members to rankle each other and then for the rest of the board to jump in, line on up sides, and argue about nothing.
I'm not going to argue with you (or anyone else) about this because it's a dumb thing to argue about. You and I can argue, get all pissed at each other, and end up not liking each other very much, and for what exactly?
How you or I read the post isn't at issue. I was simply pointing out that any disagreement takes two, and to pile the guilt on one side of the fence is simplistic and incorrect. Yes, we all have loyalties to one user or another, but we should also be intelligent enough to realize that there are two sides to every situation. I can see both ladies' perspectives and feel they both have legitimate reasons to be upset. But all of us arguing isn't going to change anything.
While Whispersecret and Nicole have left the building, we're all standing around like idiots debating the meanings of their posts. The horse is mummified. Time to move on to interesting topics rather than rehash this personal grudgematch. This is my last post on the topic - I'm moving on to other, more fun topics.

I read too many chapters of my Jude Deveraux novel (which is only so-so).
