Favorite movie quotes

Robert De Niro, as Sam, has some great lines in Ronin (1998). This, with Sean Bean, would be my pick:

Spence: "You ever kill anybody?"
Sam: "I hurt somebody's feelings once."

The Whale

Ellie: In the amazing book Moby Dick by the author Herman Melville, the author recounts his story of being at sea. In the first part of his book, the author, calling himself Ishmael, is in a small sea-side town and he is sharing a bed with a man named Queequeg, and I felt saddest of all when I read the boring chapters that were only descriptions of whales, because I knew that the author was just trying to save us from his own sad story, just for a little while.

(To be truthful, that sums up Moby Dick perfectly)

That was one of the inmates who yelled that to her and Lechter asked what he'd said to see if she'd repeat it. When she did his reply was "I myself, cannot." But I'm not sure if that was the movie or the book.

I quoted the movie. Since I haven’t read the book, I don’t know if that line is in it 🤷🏻‍♀️

In my writing I rely a lot more on dialogue than narrative, my characters carry the story in words and deed

Because of my fondness for dialogue, great lines in movies really stand out to me. Usually ones that are snarky or funny because I use a lot of sarcasm in my stories, but a good line is a good line.

So what are some of your favorites and from what movie?
@lovecraft68,
"The Hunt for Red October"

Jonesy: I was just in the process of teaching sea-man Beaumont here the intricacies of modern sonar...
Cobb: Yeah, and I ain't Chief of the boat, I'm Sheena Queen of the Jungle...
Jonesy: Okay Cobb, go ahead, tell the story...
Cobb: Y'see, Jonesy thinks this boat is actually his own private stereo so there we were one day, he's just happy as a clam, got his music out in the water when a whole slew of pups...
Jonesy: Including one way the hell out at pearl!
Cobb: ...Including one way the hell out at pearl hear Pav-a-roti comin' out their asses...

Got dozens and dozens really but that's gotta be "The One".
Respectfully,
D.

"That is one big pile of shit." —Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Jurassic Park
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it." —K (Tommy Lee Jones) Men In Black
"::sneezes:: Oh, sorry... I'm allergic to bullshit." —Del Spooner (Will Smith), I, Robot
"Yipee-ki-yay, motherfucker." —John McClane (Bruce Willis), Die Hard

You know, there's going to be sex, drugs, rock-n-roll... chips, dips, chains, whips... You know, your basic high school orgy type of thing. I mean, uh, I'm not talking candlewax on the nipples, or witchcraft or anything like that, no, no, no. Just a couple of hundred kids running around in their underwear, acting like complete animals. -

If you're calling out John McClane, I have to give a nod to The Duke as Rooster Cogburn; "Fill your hand, you son of a bitch!"

Dave: My God, it's full of stars!

Serious question: I know that line was in the book. And I could have sworn it was in the original 2001, but its not. But then they use it in 2010 and confirm it was his last transmission.

and ive always wondered if a scene got cut or it was my imagination 🤔

I've had it with love. I don't believe it's relevant to the modern 20th, soon to be 21st, century lesbian.
Jamie, Drive Away Dolls

"So, you're all tough, then?"

"Kill us if you can!"

"It'll hurt."
Sanjuro and the gamblers, Yojimbo

I mean, I'm smiling, but I am very fucking furious.
Zhukov in Death of Stalin

"You're going to go out there and you're going to finish 'Hail Caesar!' You're gonna give that speech at the feet of the penitent thief and you're going to believe every word you say. You're going to do it because you're an actor and that's what you do, just like the director does what he does, and the writer and the script girl and the guy who claps the slate. You're gonna do it because the picture has worth! And you have worth if you serve the picture. And you're never gonna forget that again."

"I won't forget, Eddie."

"Damn right you won't. Not as long as I run this dump. Now Baird? Go out there and be a star."
Eddie Mannix and Baird Whitlock, Hail, Caesar!

Ive always thought that line was in the film but when I last watched the 4k on bluray, it wasn't on it.

You're asking me to ask my father, or thinking I know that? I don't.
