FOOD: Weird to others, normal to you

The staple food of Irish students

Chips (thick french fries) in curry sauce (ie a carton of chips, with hot curry sauce ladled over) Mmmmmm, lovely on a cold winter's night, when you come out of a night club!! great soakage for the alcohol and you wake up hang over free in the morning...... more or less!

There is also the less popular version with chips (thick french fries) with a hot cheese sauce over them.

neither are good for people watching their carbs!!

I take it you're Northern :D

let's see. Fish and Chips. Being an American, most don't even understand what that means. *sighs*

Chocolate syrup on apple pie. Hit upon this one last year. Pretty good, actually.

Salt and Vinegar chips. My mother and I love them. Most people I know can't stand them, including the bulk of our family.

Dude, ever eat the kettle brand ones? They have a freakishly strong taste, but are so damn good.

The best brand I've ever had was Poore Brothers. They went under last year. Their replacement, Rachel's, uses too much salt and not enough vinegar....

If you like salt and vinegar chips, I'd try the kettle brand. They make other good flavors as well.

OH, and another favorite of mine:

White rice mixed with ketchup with hotdog slices on top.

Mmmmmmmm

I do that often actually.

I don't know that I eat anything too weird, but I do enjoy scrambled eggs with cheese and ketchup.

This maybe a Canadian thing.. But Miss Vickies makes a really good Salt and Vinegar chip... Not the French Fry kind that come with your fish but the other kind that I think Brits call "Crisps"

Have you tried peanut butter and brown sugar sandwiches?

I must admit no I have not, but its pretty close to mine I guess.

I also really got into peanut butter and cream cheese on a bagel. I don't know if that's weird in America, but in the UK its pretty weird.

Welsh Rarebit - kinda like only slightly thickened scrambled eggs, with worcestershire sauce, mustard, and cheddar cheese, lots of freshly ground black pepper, and, if feeling the urge, a little paprika.

Delicious over crusty bread.... failing that... toast.

MMMMMMmmmmm!!

Zy, I'm afraid your rice, ketchup and hotdog concoction reminds me too much of my impoverished student days when as little cash as possible was wasted on rudimentry things like food! (saved for drink & cigarettes! ) when we could make a tin of baked beans, mixed with white rice feed us for three days! And, for the totally broke, pasta with a little tomato ketchup on it, Oh,and I used to make a curry on Sunday nights, when everyone I shared with were returning .... a potato, carrot and onion curry!! Jesus!! That's triggered memories of stuff I haven't thought about in ages!!:)

Strawberries dipped in sour cream and brown sugar... oh now I want some.
Some people think cheese whiz is weird... I love it. And scary amounts of soy sauce on rice.

Pickled cow tongue

I grew up eating Basque food with my family.

I think I have the kicker, unless you're Cherokee. How about black bear fat on biscuits, or bean bread (think something like cornbread, but made with beans instead)

Hmm lets see.. Ive Eaten Venison, Moose, Gator, Horse, rabbit, squirrel, Goose, and lots of Fresh water fish..

I was brought up in a family that was always open to trying different things. I am thinking that these things are normal to others and... strange... to myself. They also were not taste treats. I blame my father.

When I was reading "Moby Dick", my father brought me home some blubber. Yes, for real. If any of you have ever tried or eaten it, I'd be interesting in knowing what the allure is. *takes a deep breath

Another adventure was poi while reading either "Swiss Family Robinson" or "Robinson Crusoe". I'm not sure which anymore. It put me in mind of the white paste we had in grade school. Same request as above. I know it was/is a staple food in the South Pacific.

Insects. Chocolate covered ones. Ants, bees, crickets. My mother was not best pleased that he had put a box in the refrigerator. I tasted the ants - I suppose they were quite sweet, but that could have just been the chocolate. Anyone like these?
