For Zelensky it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. The Biden Administration has never wanted him to win. Their slow rolling of aid and cutting support for 6 months illustrates that. That would not have changed under Harris.

Now with Trump, Trump wants peace. Putin wants a victory. Trump will not give Putin a victory and if Putin doesn't play Trump's game and back down (which will be the end of Putin and he knows it), then Trump will just open the Lend Lease floodgates, selling Zelensky what he needs at book value. Any idea what the book value of a retired Bradley storied in the desert is? Three tenths of fuck all.

Trump will sell them to Ukraine on lend-lease. Zelensky will happily buy at book value, NOT replacement cost, which is where all the MAGA budgetary screaming comes from - because they see these billions as $'s going to Ukraine corruption, whereas it's not. It's $'s going to the US Defense industry to buy new replacement stuff to take the place of the end of life shit we would otherwise have to pay to dispose of. So its all an optical illusion.

Biden was using Ukraine to create pork for the defence industry and others (the shit that was budgeted in with Ukraine was fucking disgusting). No need for Trump to do that. He can loan a hundred million to Ukraine - lend-lease, pay it back at some point after the war - sell 500 Bradleys and 500 Abrams and a 1000 Strykers to Ukraine for a hundred bucks each or whatever they go for as scrap, throw in an extra loan to frefurbish them and away they go, everyone happy. No $'s for corrupt Ukrainians, no massive budgets for military equipment to Ukraine because we loaned it to them and they'll pay it back and besides, we don't need to lend them that much to pay for the old shit.

Same with ammo. We sell them all our old ammo which has to be disposed of because we have a lot near EOL, and why not get a EOL bonus by unloading it on the Russians. No environmental impact assessments, no toxic waste (in the USA anyhow) and lots and lots of dead Russians (bonus). Etc etc etc. Apply that logic to anything you like. Blackhawks. Biden is givimg them away to everyone except Ukraine and he won't even sell them to Ukraine, the scumbag. A10's. F16's. We have them out the ying yang. So what if the Russians shoot a few dozen down. We have hundreds and the Ukrainians can grow more pilots.

Well, I hope you're right about all of that, it means Ukraine still has a chance to win.

Of course, in this war neither side has the ability to win in the sense of destroying the other's capacity to make war.

Ukraine can only "win" by keeping the war going and going until Putin gets sick and tired of it.

The Russian Federation is one of the worlds 3 remaining colonial powers - China is another, altho Tibetans, Uihgurs and Mongols are being relegated to the minority status of native North American indian tribes, overwhelmed by Chinese settlers. The other is Indoneasia, which is essentially a Javanese colonial empire, where the Javanese took over from the Dutch as the colonial power. Witness the Molucca's, Western Papua (Irian Jaya is a Javanese name - been there and it IS a colony that's economically exploited), Kalimantan, and Sumatra.

Russia itself is a small area around Moscow - a bit like the UK compared to the old British Empire. The difference being the Russian colonies are geographically proximate rather than overseas, as was the case with Britain and France. Nevertheless, those colonies are gradually becoming more rebellious - Chechnya, Dagestan, Siberia.... and the problem is that if the Russian Federation self-destructs, you have chaos, a large number of nukes on the loose, and huge natural resources tempting China to move in and grab Siberia. So no, The establishment does NOT want Putin to lose, neither do they want him to win. They want a draw.

LOL. Laz, we may disagree on everything else under the sun but we both want Ukraine to win this one.

This is where I have always been, since Day one. My dad's family roots are from around Lvov, altho Polish rather than Ukrainian. I've been doing my best to support Ukraine from when this whole thing started, and that won't change. So no, I'm not "finally getting it." I always got it. LOL

I was hoping Chloe “Chicongo” Tzang was finally realizing the complexities of the situation, and that President Biden and his administration were operating in a sane, prudent, pragmatic, and strategically sound manner when dealing with the very delicate situation that abruptly confronted them.

The coalition building, logistics and supply chain planning / negotiations / implementation, ratcheting up of military aid as the Ukrainians proved themselves reliable partners in the fight (but not risking the most advanced American technology being exploited or falling into the hands of the Russians, etc.) and other decisions by President Biden and his administration were perfectly sound. (THE MAGAt REPUBLICANS BLOCKING AID TO UKRAINE at a critical time in the conflict is on DonOld and THE MAGAT REPUBLICANS.)

I've seen speculation about Russia breaking up, and it certainly makes sense WRT ethnically non-Russian regions such as Chechnya. But I've never even heard of a movement for an independent Novgorod or an independent St. Petersburg.

Likewise with China. Tibet or Xinjiang might want to break away, but "China Proper," the Han-majority core, is a real nation-state.
