Genuinely Curious: Why the Hate for Sex in Stories

But does it count toward my word percentage?! Got to get the sex ratio right!
the sex ratio is right if there is at least three inches of penetration of any kind.

As for the words, fucked if I know, I'd ask my muse but the bitch is drunk again. šŸ„‚

You keep saying this, but how do you know?

Because of how well the kinky plotless stuff scores around here for one. Two, I've had a number of people tell me (including a couple of beta volunteers) that while my writing is very good, all that non-sexual stuff killed the mood for them. Three, just how kink-centric the vast majority of the content is and how much the readership likes it, any yes I've talked with many readers.

Other than the small group of readers who do give us feedback in one form or another, none of us have a clue about the other 99%.

See above.

It's difficult to explain how longer stories appear to be popular, if you believe everyone's here to toss off in five minutes and that's it.

I never said that. I also addressed longer stories in my original post that you quoted but conveniently dismissed are erased from the quote.

I ascribe slightly more sophistication to my readers - I don't write stroke, but my stories seem to do okay, so I can assume they're reading "for the something else."

Again, I addressed that in my original post when I addressed established followings and specific categories.

Or maybe I should do a gradient bar from blue to red and this stuff would be various shades of purple. I need a grad student to run the numbers and generate the graphs while I focus on what's important. Fundin//er, I mean writing.

I wasn't speaking of anyone but myself. I wasn't referring to anyone's work or writing but my own. I've read your work and enjoyed it.

So, more for my own curiosity, I did do a check on this. Sex constituted 4830 words out of 17023. Not quite 30% of the story. I'm actually a little surprised but pleased it was that low. To my mind, less than half should be my goal so that I have enough character and setting development, and let the story flow and progress between the sex scenes. But that's just me.
My last two ā€œstoriesā€ were 100% sex. Not a single word of plot or character or background. Total jerk off fests. Then both were just 1k words. Both in slow categories. And my troll is doing a passable impression of a bunch of piranha on them. But Iā€™m beyond caring. I know Iā€™m getting better - when I try - and I have multiple people I respect saying the same. Good enough for me šŸ˜Š.

There's nothing wrong with a good stroke story. Nothing at all. I have some planned myself. They are even labeled as such in my notes.

It was very much a much needed release after substantially more emotionally draining previous stories.

And lots of fun.

Thank you! I've thought yours was great as well! I'm just playing around, I didn't mean to imply I thought you were saying anyone else had to do anything any particular way :)

Fair enough, but don't think it applies to every reader. I've got just as long a set of responses that says exactly the opposite. And there's any number of folk in these threads who say they skip the sex to stay with the story.

I asked, because you keep saying it as an absolute, when it's obviously not.
