Ah, you gotta love Trashua - right up there with Manchvegas.Scalywag said:I grew up in Hudson, right next to Nausea

Scalywag said:yeah, what kind of criteria do they use for that?

Scalywag said:translation: the area around nashua is greater than nashua itself

As a youngster, I spent many summer vacations in Hudson. Several relatives lived there. Can't begin to say how many times I went to Benson's.Scalywag said:I grew up in Hudson, right next to Nausea
One of my favorite places was a drive-in/ice cream/miniature golf place just east of where the main drag split (from there, to the right led down Ferry Street towards Nashua, I think). I suppose that place is long gone too.Scalywag said:Hudson has changed a lot. Drove by my childhood home about a year ago and couldn't believe all the development. The sand pit, woods trails where we used to ride bikes....now home to a school and lots of houses. All the farmland near the Merrimack river....now golf courses and homes.
Yeah Benson's....went there a few times. Probably more houses there. Wonder how many houses were built on elephant crap.
I don't remember the name of the place either, but I had cousins who lived right across the street. Even forty or more years later, when I smell deep-frying fat I think of this drive-in in Hudson. On the attached map, the place was located where I inserted the small red rectangle.Scalywag said:Can't quite put my finger on it.
I remember a place (my memories go back to late 60's) on Derry Rd called Goodwin's....it was a drive-in restaurant, open during the summer....great fried food. There's a strip mall there now and has been for many years.

Exactly. And then a little further down the road, again coming from Nashua, the Grange hall was on the left just before a turn we took to drive to one of my uncles' houses. That would have been a bit past one of the entrances to Benson's as I recall.Scalywag said:You know, I think I can vaguely remember the place, it was a little before one of the entrances to Benson's if you were coming from, say Nashua. Can't remember the name, but the building waskind of short in height, lots of screen and/or glass windows on the front, I think it had picnic tables inside, and out in the back under trees
Yes - I was in that church for one of my cousin's weddings about 20 years ago. IIRC, eventually Greeley St. gave way to Barrett's Hill Road, which wound its way back to the main drag headed toward Salem.Scalywag said:Ok, i think on the map you posted that would be at the hudson center dot. Turning left there would put you on Greeley St. (for some reason I'm thinking there was a big white church there on the corner just before the turn)
At one point, I had relatives who lived on Ferry St (about a mile from the bridge), Greeley St., and Barrett's Hill Road. I rode my bike all over town. Even nearly died there one summer; ended up in a hospital in Nashua for about a week or so. Still, I have nothing but fond memories of the place. Sometimes I wish I could find a town of a similar size in New England in which to retire.Scalywag said:Actually, at one point Barrett's Hill Rd splits of to the right, and Greeley goes to the left and continues to Old Derry Rd, which continues to Derry Road. (that's the part of town I grew up in)
