Let's think of it this way. A good analogy of typical masturbation would be a guy or lady with a tennis racket, hitting a tennis ball against a wall...while masturbation during text, IM, or phone sex, would be more like playing an actual game.

In my own particular case, know in the past, when I've tried it, it's always been helpful to get to know the person a bit first, instead of jumping right in.
