So. Now that this thread has hit 126 replies and 6,154 views it's time for a little confession: I am shynerdgirl.

Ever since I first joined this site I've been curious about how I was being treated (read: overlooked) by certain people so I decided to run a little experiment: same personality, same pictures, but simply neglecting to mention the transgender part of the equation.

Thank you to everyone who commented positively on the pictures here (quite a boost to the ol' self-esteem), thank you to everyone who sent sexy PMs (even the negging/C&P-to-every-female-username ones), and finally a big THANK YOU to those few who DID support me as Dashie.

Experiment - procedure to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or confirm something known. So what did you learn? How could you have added scientific credibility by adding controls to the experiment?

Your only stated hypothesis was that "certain people" overlooked you. Who were those certain people, and did they now notice you?

As far as I can tell, you started only one other thread in this "amateur pic feedback" board, and it didn't begin with "greetings." That's just one example. As experiments go, this probably wasn't well designed or conducted, and you shouldn't place great reliance on its outcome.

If you didn't control for enough of the variables, the result you think you achieved could be attributable purely to chance.

Don’t fall under Wheaton’s law. You and I both know what she achieved here. Even if not entirely scientific, she still proved that many folks are still trans-phobic.

I think this has started a great dialogue that we all can examine ourselves about.
