I can relate. I really can. The compliments are harder to take than the insults, and when you do get compliments, you think someone is just trying to be nice at best, or patronizing at worst. I wish I could say it gets easier, but as I approach my mid-forties, I still struggle with it.

That having been said, you are quite a lovely young lady. I’d love to hear what your nerdiness is.

Ha! You're the second person today to mention the lack of nerdiness; as I said to them, I was focusing on the looks-thing first.

Well, I've been a gamer (had an Atari 2600 as a kid and I've never looked back) since I was old enough to hold a controller, I was raised on sci-fi and kaiju films, and I missed most of school because I was too busy reading Sonic the Comic.
