Harry Potter

just thought of something..... The 7th book comes out on the 21st.... but harry's birthday is the 31st right? why wouldn't they wait 10 days and put the book out on "Harry's birthday"?.... wouldn't that make more sense? (or they could spead it up and release it on 07/07/2007 :p )

I had read that question somewhere else and the best asnwer they could get was that the 31st is a weekday and JKR wanted to do it on Friday/Saturday.

Another date mentioned was Halloween (day his parents got killed)

Friend of mine says that in England a "Help line" is being set up when the book comes out to help people who "might become depressed" with the events that take place...

ie...Harry gets whacked

I used to be very against the series (as in I refused to read the books or watch the movies until about a year after the fifth one came out, when I gave in) for reasons like that. People camping out 3 days before the book comes out. Scandals over someone stealing a copy before it's released. People getting so emotional about the book (and I know how a good book can really stir emotions, but suicidal depression?) that they need to make a help line. Yeesh. ^^ Maybe I'm just insensitive?

I can see myself getting frustrated at the ending, but that would just make me want to discuss it with some friends.

But no matter what happens to Harry and the rest of the cast, I'm happy because a friend told me that he read something somewhere a few months ago that Rowling may actually continue to write within this world, despite the fact that she said she wouldn't years ago. Apparently another British fantasy writer (it might have been Brian Jacques) talked to her and said something to the effect of "you took the time to create this world and make it your own...yes, take a break from it for a while cause you deserve one...but don't abandon it". I do hope she writes more about it eventually.

anyone ever watched the video for My Chemical Romance's 'Welcome to the black parade'? i think the lead singer looks a bit like draco in it *giggle* 'specially if you imagine he's talking about "i'm not gonna do what my father wants anymore!"

I too ama big fan of Harry Potter.
It will be really exciting.
I loved reaing all the books, but i hated 5th one because Rowling killed Sirius Black, and sixth because of Albus Dumbledore.
But i wish she could bring back Sirius alive though i know she can't but i wish to see him back.
Also i have a theory of my own regarding Harry and Voldemort.
I belive when Lord Voldemort tried to killed harry, he had killed himself but he was left earthbound because of his horcruxes, so he will be unable to make anymore horcruxes for himself, but due to the failed curse Harry became a horcrux thus getting marked equal by Voldemort.
Harry will destroy all the Horcruxes of Voldemort and in the end they will have a duel where Voldemort would kill Harry but before harming or killing Harry he destroys his own last bit of soul thus end up killing himself, leaving Harry alive.
I belive this could be the fitting end to the Darkest wizard ever.
I am a fan of Voldemort as much as of Harry, but i don't like his search of physical immortality, i belive one is immortal if he is remembered long after he is gone with admiration and respect even if by one human being who is not part of his immediate family.

my theory.....

I think it's going to have a soap opera twist. I think Harry and Dudley were either switched at birth or are brothers.....Petunia is Harry's real mother/mum....

Yup, I'm a Harry Potter fan. Saw the new book on Amazon last night. Can't wait to read it.... after I finish the last two that is.... I'm a slow reader, ok? Just IMO... Harry being switched with Uncle Dudley, it's kinda gross.... :p

Just watch out for any turds who flip to the end to find out what happens and then blurts it out, ruining the culmination of about 9 years. Cause you know they'll be out there.

I'm a Potter addict I am afraid. Like a previous poster I refused point blank to play with the series until one bored summer I read the five available books and became so hooked it was embarrassing :D

Unfortunately the fat bird is technically scheduled to be in hospital on the twentieth of July, but I'm plotting a scheme that should allow me to be at one of the local midnight openings :D :cathappy:

i was ill for some time so i am out of time, could i know the date of release of the 7th book and where i could order it?
thanks in anticipation

I am also one of the "Harry as one of the Horcruxes" adherents. I think it would be fitting for the good and evil focuses to end each other, or Voldie to end himself by killing Harry.

Also, Sirius is not confirmed to have died. He disappeared into an area which no one has ever come back from. Everyone considers him dead, but really, is he?

All I know is that I will be waiting with heated anticipation for the last release. My preorder is already in!!!

Check my first post in this thread for the release date, and most on-line book shops have it up for preorder already.

July 21

in addition to the major book chains I read somewhere that Wal-Mart is selling it for I think $16.95, but I can't find that article so the price may be a little different.

There are multiple versions as well. A delux copy for about $65

I'm fairly sure Harry is going to die. I can't see him facing Voldemort and surviving. The boy has had no training in the dark arts at all and is a teenager still in school going against a Dark Lord that's decades older than him. He couldn't even go through the training Snape gave him.

As far as Snape is concerned, I have my thoughts too. It did seem odd that Dumbledore did seem to ask him to kill him. Of the staff, he's the only one that we know of with Dark Arts experience and we really don't have an idea as to just how powerful he is.

The whole thing is really up in the air, and Rowling has a LOT of explaining to do. I can't wait for the last book. *grins*

re

I too doubted that Sirius was dead, others have argued with me about it but I still have a feeling.

Is it possible Dumbledore's death might be something along the lines of Obi Wan Kenobi's in Star Wars? Dead but not really, still able to communicate with Harry, chance for some flashback scenes?

I started out as not even a fan I would say. Watched the movies but not as a hardcore fanatic. Then I started reading the books. Never thought I would be the book over the movie person but I'm genuinely more excited about book 7 than I am about movie 5.

Opinions

Just saw this thread and thought that I would give my opinions. I don't think that Harry is going to die and that he is not a horcrux. He really can't be a horcrux and stay alive at the same time. Another opinion is that Dumbledore told Snape that he had to do it to save Draco. Draco is a good guy just with bad parents. If he was truly bad he would have killed Dumbledore right on top of the astronomy tower with no questions asked. On Neville, he will play an important role but he is not whom the prophecy was talking about. Voldemort had to choose either Harry or Neville and he chose Harry. :)

You can count me among the Harry Potter fans here on Lit.

As for any predictions... well all I am going to predict is this is going to be one amazing book and I am booking the day off work, and not going online till I finish reading it. I read the last one in 10 hours with a half hour break for supper lol.

I'm a loser and I order the British copies online. I don't get it immediately and it costs more, but I like the covers better and there are some subtle British things that they sometimes take out of the American versions. I'm just weird like that.
