i'm almost jealous. Almost.Scalywag said:a lot of people do. actually, it's unusual for us to have bare ground this time of year. 3 years ago we had over 3 feet of snow on the ground on this date, however that is also an extreme. usually it's somewhere in between.
i grew up in a mountain state, and am stuck in the south. The jealousy's there.Scalywag said:Almost, huh?
Well, it was about 20 F when I was clearing the driveway today, and no matter which way I aimed the snowblower, the wind blew the snow back at me. Oh yeah, that arctic wind was cold too. The weather guys were saying the wind chill was going to be from -15 F to 0 F. I don't know what it actually was, it was just freakin' cold.
That should emilinate any further thoughts of jealousy.

So do irises and tulips and crocus and lily of the valley and... bulb-y stuff. There's a reason i like them.huskie said:yup... same here. Super cool thing about them Daffodils is they multiply on there on a lot

Something might be eating the bulbs.huskie said:other than dafs..... I have not had much luck getting those plants to come back?? not sure whats killing them off??
lilredjammies said:Not likely that something is eating lilies-of-the-valley. They're so poisonous that after 30 minutes the water in which cut flowers are standing becomes poisonous. Tulips, hyacinths, gladiolas, all of those are appealing to squirrels for the bulbs, and slugs, deer & bunnies for the foliage. The other possibility is the dreaded lawnus mowerus highpowerus, which can cut down foliage needed for regrowth and reblooming.
As for the kitty litter, I think even with plants wanting high-acid soils you can get acid burn. If you're going to try it, use just a teensy bit at first, maybe on a plant you can live without if you get the dosage wrong.

It's worth a try.
Any local logging companies? Furniture makers? Cabinet makers? Anything of that sort? We ended up having to cut one of ours down ourself, but one of the local woodworkers paid us for the wood itself.huskie said:I see... how ever.. I AM the Lawnus Mowerus you speak of Beer does NOT work on me but I do need naps on the weekends.... and history channel works good to..
I have a big (apx 12" diam.) Black Walnut Tree, beside my home I need to get removed. I have been told (through the grape vine) there persons out there that will pay me for this tree and remove it? Does anyone know what kinda person this would be?
btw: Didja yall know that Walnut trees kick out a poison that will kill off certain plants like Fescue Grass and Azaleas? YA-HU IT WILL!!!! goggle it if you don't believe me!!!

Yep, knew that! Didja know that it will also kill people and animals if they eat the shell coverings or the shells? Interesting thing is that the poisonous parts are the parts with the dye in them. Make a really pretty deep brown and, since it's boiled to help get the dye out, the toxins are actually cooked out enough to make the dye safe to use on fabric that will be worn against the skin.
