How do you deal with anger?

Loud, viciously angry music while working out.

And I'm a fan of the Tao te Ching. Its message of detachment helps me to gain perspective sometimes.

I furiously complain to S and then let it go.

If it's an issue with my parents, I'll keep it in for a good ten years and then let it out in an hour-long session filled with yelling and profanities, and then not ever feel quite the same about my relationship with them again.

I deal with anger by taking it out on one of my cars. I either find a twisty hill piece of road, put on some Iron Maiden and just drive to wherever i end up, usually an amazing lookout over the sea. Its hard to hold onto anger with such a beautiful outlook.

If that still doesn't work, i also race at the speedway, luckily you are allowed to smash into other cars in the class I race in. I thoroughly recommend a Demolition Derby for people with anger issues.

A friend an I were recently speculating as to how much money we could make if we opened a "pay by the hour demolition derby". Have a bad day at work? Come by the Demo Derby and for $50 we will supply you with a helmet and car. Sort of like bumper cars for adults. :)

i rarely get angry with other people. when i do, it's for a good reason. then i plot, plan and bide my time.

I would pay for that, though it wouldn't be in anger. That just sounds like fun!

Now that would be fun, but have you seen the damage caused to a car after one derby lol? unless people were dropping cars off for free you really wouldn't make much money, then you get into the safety aspects of it and it just becomes a nightmare.

I know it wouldn't be feasable..it was one if those "wouldn't be cool" kinds of conversations. Hmm, maybe I should add this to the "can't fail" thread. :)

How odd!

I have posted some incredibly personal information on my sexual preferences on both this and other forums over the past couple of years. Yet, after thinking about what my response to this question would be I find I am not willing to share it.

However it has provided food for thought. Thanks for the other replies.

+100 for Taoism!

I understand the detachment thing. If I'm angry and I can't actually deal with it right away, stepping back and taking a wider perspective helps.

Of course, I always want to talk out things rationally whenever I get angry. It sounds preachy and stuff, but it's true. I used to get angry a lot, but now it's very rare for me. Yet somehow I know how to deal with it better.

Depends.

Sometimes, the anger turns inwards. thats when its the worse. it builds, silently and slowly, and then explodes over the smallest thing. I hate that.

Most times, i try to deal with the anger as soon as possible. I express it, either through writing or yelling.
