How long does pending usually take?

Yes, it's been received. I can see it listed and can read it
in my profile page.

I'm not sure I understand. You said it hadn't gone to Pending yet. Are you going to its entry under Drafts to read it? If you're reading it in Drafts, then you've uploaded the story, but you haven't submitted it for publication.

If that's the case, then you need to make sure the submission form is filled out then click "Preview and Publish" at the bottom right of the page. Make sure the story appears correctly and that all the settings shown on the Preview page are correct then press the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

If you filled everything in, then you should get a pop-up notification that you've successfully submitted a story. The "My Activity" and "All Activity" lists on your home page should also show that you successfully submitted a story, and the story itself should disappear from Drafts and appear in Pending.

If you're reading it in Sent Back, then you submitted it, but Laurel returned the story to you. You should have some information about why.

Where in your profile page can you read the text? Once I've successfully submitted a file, I can't read the text anywhere on my profile page anymore.

My last edit is dated Oct 16 and is listed as 'pending' It's Oct 22 today and the status at 5:19 PM is the same. So far that's five days wait time. I asked for the category to be changed, the tags, and noted it was a revised document adding to the plot line of the story. The change request was from Humor/Satire to Erotic Couplings.

I've sent changes to another story a couple of months ago, that took four days to take effect.

Patiences is a virtue, you know? ;-) As others have noted, it takes about 5 to 8 days - give or take.

Regarding formats with italic or centering text

I just had one go up 4 days after I submitted it, for what that's worth. (Not a contest story, Exh and Voyeur.)

If it's bothering you, you can just <i>tag the italics</i> yourself and submit it through the text box instead of as RTF.

____
I use the <I> text between them to handle italic text </I> and also <center> text here between the closing </center> marks as well. My process is:
  • Create story in MS Word
  • Add an an * for Italic open and ** for close
  • When i am done writing I do a search and replace for those with <I> or </I>.
  • I do the same for <center> and </center> but use & and && as place holders
  • That saves the tedious entries of manually putting in <I> or <center>

I have stories that are beyond 30 pages of MS Word that I just copy and past into the text entry box and check them in the preview and publish window. Not to tedious a process so far.

What is Lauren's URL? I'm becoming quite concerned. I see that some stories are published in two days. I uploaded a story 22 days ago and it isn't in the pending stage yet. I'd like to ask Lauren for its status. I submitted another eight days ago but no joy.
I can see my stories on my profile page, but still no movement toward publishing. I feel like i'm being ignored.

It's Laurel, not Lauren. Make sure you have Private Messaging turned on (from the "User CP" link on the top left of the window, select "Edit Options" and scroll down) and send a private message to "Laurel".

The thing is that if your story isn't in Pending, then it hasn't been submitted for publication, and she probably won't be able to tell you much.

Go to 'Works' on profile page. Click on 'Drafts'. Your story(s) will load and then open up.

How can I go back to see if I did anything wrong - without changing the submission date?
thanx

You won't have a submission date until the story appears in "Pending." As long as it's still in "Drafts" you can check and change anything you want.

Go to 'Works' on profile page. Click on 'Drafts'. Your story(s) will load and then open up.

It isn't submitted at that stage. I asked where you can read the text of a story before the story posts that you've actually submitted. If it's in drafts, you haven't submitted it.

I have re-submitted my stories, but they still haven't moved to pending.

I assume that if your story is in Pending that you can click on Pending and your story will appear

I've clicked on the pencil icon next to my stories and re-clicked on Preview and Publish. Nothing happens. The stories still do not appear under Pending. What else can I try?

It sounds to me that you're still in Draft.

You need to Preview, then Submit. At that point, you'll no longer be able to see the content and the story will go to Pending. Don't keep trying to see where it's up to - every time you do, you could be pulling it back into Draft.

Make sure the first page is completely filled in, including the checkbox at the end. When you click on "Preview and Publish" it should take you to another screen where you can see how the text will look when published and review all the settings to make sure they're what you want. The "Submit" button is at the bottom of the Preview page.

Does it? I've always assumed (and been told) that if you click on pending, your submission goes back to the back of the line. I'm not going to try it, though, as my stories go through fine.

Before you clicked on "Preview and Publish", did you click on "Save Draft"?

I've clicked on the pencil icon next to my stories and re-clicked on Preview and Publish.

From there, you should be able to read the story in the format it will appear on the story site. Review it and all the way at the bottom, you should see .....

If you don't do that, you won't get it to Pending.

Eureka. It worked~!
Thank you, guys, all of you, for walking me through this maze. I wouldn't have found the way to get my stories to Pending without your help. I'm really grateful.

You guys have been a godsend for a newbie like me.
I did as you said and, hallelujah, it worked.
Since I had to start over again anyway, I clicked on Pending today. I could read my submissions; I checked afterward and found that the beginning dates on my uploads hadn't changed. They remained the same as my original submissions.

You're free to look at your story while it's pending, but if you change anything in the text or on the form it should reset the submission date. I think that stories are normally reviewed in the order of their submission date, but there are times when stories seem to jump the list or fall through a crack.

Windows 7 has a Snipping Tool included by default. In that, there is a marking pen. You can change colors too.

It could also be done in MS Paint or any of several other image editors.

You have to check your author control panel for approval or rejection, as far as I know the site lacks direct email capability for authors. There’s no way to receive notifications for comments on your work by direct email either. :( This isn’t AO3.
