Some foods definitely put the cravings back into your system which is why I don't eat such foods. That, and I remain 100% focused on the task at hand.Scalywag said:One of my biggest problems is that some foods make me crave the worst things. Like anything made with a lot of tomatos (ask Dan Quaile if it needs and e) say pasta and a tomato based sauce, is an instant craving for chocolate. I try to get by instead with a Nature Valley trail mix bar instead...they're kind of sweet but don't have the saturated fat chocolate has. Ice cream is another thing I crave after a lot of meals. At least I have cut out the Chunkey Monkey.....1200 calories in one container....sometimes used to eat one for lunch. But yeah, exercise is an important part of the equation.

Currently, my diet consists of:
Egg whites
Bagels
All Bran
Skim Milk
Chicken
Canned Chicken
Flax Oil
Fat Free Mozzeralla cheese
fat free cottage cheese
8 liters of water/day
That's all
EJFan said:i wouldn't dare challenge you, house, but how much flax oil are you consuming? it seems to be your only source of fat (i know you and i differ on this a bit) but what percentage of your macros is it making up?
i find that healthy fats promote satiety and help make my kcal goals without having to eat such a high volume of food... but that's just me. if flax was my only source of fat i'd have to put it in/on everything. lol.
again, not an argument, just a discussion for educational puproses.
houseman said:The breakdown is about 20% of my overall caloric intake.
EJFan said:ah. i was wondering becuase it sounded rather low, even for you , when i read it. lol.
btw... i don't know what your thoughts are on breakfast cereals on the whole but i, personally, love 'em. recently i got this organic stuff called "optimum power" and it's INCREDIBLE!
organic doesn't mean shit to me... i could seriously care less. but this cereal seems to have some really good ingredients... flax, blueberries, whole grain (seriously whole grain... not, like, cheerios whole grain). i think the company that makes it is called nature's path... they have a pretty wide selection of cereal products (hot, cold, kiddie, adult, etc.).
houseman said:I'm not big on cereal but I eat this because it has 36 grams of fiber per 1 cup serving.
EJFan said:so you ARE familiar with it! cool. at least i know i'm not the only one.
it was so odd... our local food lion (suck ass chain supermarket) actually carries a good chunk of the nature's path product line. it's amazing considering that i can find it hard to get anything really interesting at most of the area supermarkets.... we're so in the dark here when it comes to trying new things.
like eilan said once... "our store thinks that if they can't pronounce it, we don't need it."
houseman said:No. I didn't mean I eat your cereal. I eat my cereal. I DO know of your cereal though.
EJFan said:oops. when you said "i eat this because" i just assumed you meant the optimum power crap. my bad.
what is it that you eat then? aside from this stuff i pretty much stick to either grape nuts or all bran.
houseman said:All Bran Pellets
EJFan said:i JUST got some o' this last week. not bad but i'd never had it before and thought it'd be more like grape nuts... which it is, i guess, just not as dense... less crunchy.
good for a crap, nonetheless.
kinky shy girl said:i've lost 4 lbs in the last month. (i'm 5'1'' so a few extra pounds really show on my frame) the main thing that helped is not eating at night. i sleep very late, so i used to eat dinner around 8pm and maybe have a snack around 11pm. very bad.
now i eat dinner around 6pm and nothing afterwards. maybe a piece of fruit if i'm starving. plus i do cardio and weights. end result is that i'm constantly hungry at night, but i'm getting used to it.
EJFan said:i have to disagree with you a bit, houseman... or maybe i'm reading differently from what you're typing (a hazard of not actually talking perhaps)...
when i lost my weight i went through periods of hunger from time to time... i'm only guessing but i'd suppose that the mind/body connection isn't quite reformed and you sort of "imagine" that you're hungry... feeling the sensations and all... but it's not really hunger, more of a craving.
in my uneducated opinion, i think her pound a week pace is pretty good. as long as kcals are in check she can still feel some hunger pangs w/o hitting starvation mode.
that being said, KSG, don't be afraid of eating at night... particularly a good protein source like fat free cottage cheese or something. it'll help you get through to morning and keep your metabolism moving a little faster than it would if there was nothing there.
the most important thing is to eat a little below maintenance (everyone has different tolerances/abilities here)... know your maintenance cals and be sure your daily intake is in check.
my two cents.
Eilan said:Today, I did something that I hadn't done since I became pregnant with my almost-two-year-old: I went to the Y and lifted weights. I didn't do too much, since it's definitely been a while, but I realized how much I missed something that, until recent years, had been a huge part of my life since 1994. It felt good (I KNOW I won't be saying that tomorrow).
I also did some cardio, which I've already been doing a bit more regularly, anyway.
Yay for me!
