Inspired by this rainy, dreary day

When it's cold out I find comfort in foods like a big a big pot of beef stew or homemade chicken soup.

Speaking of cold, it's freezing here now. What's with September and the cold weather???

mom's potato soup
grilled cheese and tomato soup
practically any cereal, hot or cold
this vodka cream pasta i make
chocolate milk, but i hardly put any chocolate in it, it's quite strange actually
freshly baked hot bread... omg... drooling
turkey and pepperjack samich
peanut butter and marshmallow cream samich
toast with butter and honey
breakfast... scrambled eggs with lotsa cheese, bacon, toast
bagels, asiago especially, but plain will do, and cream cheese
brocolli soup

i'll stop there, because i could go on forever. i love food and i LOVE to eat!

If we are talking strictly COMFORT foods:

homemade mac & cheese
lasagna
scrambled eggs with cheese melted into them

Comfort foods are not always "healthy" foods - but, that's fine. I don't need that sort of comfort very often. Prefer other varieties.

This rarely available, but when it is, I'm in comfort heaven: lobster stew.

Yummie yes, or a bouillabesse, hardly falls in the comfy food category but allright

....a rainy, dreary day....
....and down by the docks when the ships loom grey and indistinct in the fog...

A hot, thick, creamy clam chowder, hot sourdough with plenty of butter and a steaming coffie nudge.

I must be the only person in the world who doesn't like macaroni and cheese.
Nope. I can't stand the stuff either.

Personally for comfort food I'd go for something simple like a thickly cut slice of fresh, crusty bread with butter (not margarine or olive spread or others alternatives) and a liberal coating of honey.

Otherwise boiled eggs and soldiers have been a staple comfort food since I was tiny.

I forgot to mention. . .

Mashed potatoes.

Chicken and dumplings

My mom's pancakes

One thing that I've noticed is that a lot of my favorite comfort foods taste better if they're made by someone other than me. I think (or rather, hope!) that says more about my associating the food with the person who made it for me than it does about my ability to cook.

Well, there's certainly a lot of comfort in not having to do the work of cooking the comfort food. But it's also the case that a lot of my comfort foods are associated with certain people and so they do taste best when those people are at the stove.

popcorn.... popcorn is a comfort food for me. not the microwave kind, but the kind you make in a real popcorn popper with oil, then top with butter salt and lawry's seasoned salt....

enjoying a big bowl right now..... yum!!!!

mm...popcorn is always fun.

how did i forget cheese? a nice slice of cheese, like the wedge of smoked bleu cheese sitting in my fridge right now, and crackers--or even straight up--is a wonderful comfort food, if you ask me. :>

i've always been partial to adding some cayenne to popcorn, but perhaps that's just me. :>

i like cayenne on popcorn too.

but some days, i go for freshly grated parmesan cheese on it.

It's very dark and gloomy outside today. I have a pot roast in the oven, and it feels very comfy in here.

Pizza. Any kind from any place.
Chocolate Chip cookies.
Pizza with chocolate chip cookies.
My wife's homemade french fries.
