Is poetry in decline?

My summation

No, poetry will never be in decline. wherever true poetry lovers are it will be written, read and listened to. And with people like Russel Simmons pushing spoken word, and the resurgence of cafes and tea and coffee houses springing up in small; as well as moderate towns and large cities, we have only to go and enjoy it. Plus with the severe crack down on drinking and driving it's a real alternative to going to a night club, or bar and getting smashed, then running the risk of losing your driver's license or worse but that's my opinion. If it is in decline it's only for the luke warm and non poetry lovers. just one poet's opinion :D

While I like your idealism I don't think there is too much realism in your statement.
I do however believe that while poetry is in a decline it is evolving into something that it has never been before. No longer is poetry something of elitieism, it does have more of a grass roots movement in the contemporary era. It is growing...and when things grow, they start out small. So, perhaps decline is the wrong word....

Well here on Delmarva's eastern shore I have seen a rapid growth in a love for poetry in just a year. Before then I had to travel to the beach once a week or to go to Baltimore to enjoy poetry, so from where I sit it's not in decline but growing.

wooohooo for your two inches of the world!...and now, for something completely different.

Ang, I think rebirth is a perfect word. :rose:
