Just a question about an odd voting trend on my stories.

If there is a genre of stories that a person does not like for whatever reason, then why even read those stories? I guess I just don't understand the trolls. I know the hard work a writer puts into writing a story, well written or not.
I write a lot in this category. I write slut wife stories with happy endings. I get a lot of 1* bombs and nasty comments.

There is a group of readers who feel that as soon as a wife touches another man, it’s over. They like BTB stories. Burn The Bitch. Where she ends up destitute or dead. I know a few of them. The ones I know were cheated on and dumped by women. One after he took care of his wife dying of cancer, as she died, told him she always hated him and had cheated on him his entire marriage. Another was dumped when he was serving overseas. Just 2 examples.

they all seem to think that any extramarital sex will end in disease or pregnancy. Or that once something slutty happens from then on its free game and she is just taking every cook she can get. As a swinger I know neither are true.

the weird part is that they read my stories from beginning to end and can even quote my stories in the comments. That’s how much they pay attention. With that much attention to detail the stories must be making them feel something they want to feel.

I think they are turned on by the thought of their cheating partner and then mad they’re turned on, and then mad I made them feel that way.

Which is an interesting double standard, because I wrote a series of stories from a cheating male's perspective and while I did get a 1 bomb here and there, overall they did well (all but two are above 4.5, and those may just have legitimately been lower quality than the others).

This is what I was saying when I started this thread. Like... Why just go around being a dick...

To be fair though, I think that question has been asked for, well, since the beginning of time, in all contexts.
Yeah, that question can be applied to whole lot of different situations, stories included.

That is the same thoughts that I have had when I read through the comments. A loit of bitter men but then the same can be said about a lot of threads in Lit too.

I feel your pain... Two of my stories were one-bombed in the past twenty-four hours, one garnering 98 votes in a day and somehow dropping to the high two's, and the preceding chapter going from around 4.6 to 4.18, and the "reviews" tripling in that time for that story. I almost never see up to a hundred votes in less than a week, so it looks like someone was lying in wait for it to post. Four new followers and five favorites, so something doesn't compute.

Trolls: I'm guessing somebody's mommy didn't love them enough, or they just have no manners.

My stories usually run in the 4.5's and up (I've been at this for a while and practice hard to get better), so it's a surprise when stories are voted down for nameless reasons by anonymous trolls. If there is something they actually object to, they should communicate about it, or just move on from the story.

I am feeling this thread hard. That one story of mine continues to get pummeled, but the hitman seemingly is unaware of anything else I've written. That is especially confusing considering the one he's hating on is a chapter two.

As I say, the site runs an algorithm with several elements to it, to determine whether a vote is "genuine" or "malicious". The site has had it in place for many years now, and from I've seen, it keeps getting refined and tightened up.
There are lots of ways you could approach this. For example, you could track how many 1’s and 2’s each account gives out as a percentage of total votes in a given time frame. Compare that to the rate across all accounts and remove the votes of any account that, say, hits the 1 rating two or three times as often as the average account.

The goal would be to identify likely troll accounts and punish them. The variables could be played with to be more or less restrictive, and you could even inform the account owner that they are being a dick and need to tone it down to regain their voting privileges, which would happen if their votes started to align better with the average.

@JadeMynx

I did read through what you had published so far and enjoyed it for the most part. You have a good handle on the craft of writing. That is to say, dialogue, description, character development, pacing and plot development. Succeeding well at the nuts and bolts of storytelling almost always gets a five-star rating from me, even in cases where the sex depicted isn’t my cup of tea.

I think the current ratings reflect that, with the exception of chapter 4. My guess is that a lot of readers objected to the violence in that scene, and I have to say, it was brutal. It is a difficult task to write a scene that is both terrifying and painful for the character and arousing for the reader. You are asking for the reader to experience something that they may not want to feel. Some readers are going to tell you “no”, and express their displeasure with a downvote. If the number of views dropped quite a bit after chapter 4, that could be what happened.

Having said that, I did enjoy the story, brutality and all, and would encourage you to keep writing. There are far too many brainless, heartless, soulless erotic stories that are barely readable. You brought something different and made me care what happened to the character. Keep developing your talent.
