Protons are larger than electrons, and that additional mass is presumably what keeps the electron cloud in its place, but what keeps the neutrally charged neutrons bonded to the nucleus?

I'm certainly not a chemist, or even formally trained in the higher sciences, but I like to try to keep up with the newest stuff.

Also, I apparently still can't seem to keep in mind that most people do not find the sciences so fascinating, so I shall cease my ramble there.
