Let's Rock

These kids take me back to the great days of hair bands like Aerosmith, Zeppelin, and Motley Crue
Saw them in concert with my youngest just a few months ago. They put on a good show, too.

PS. How are you guys getting the actual videos posted here? I can only do links.

From one of the defining moments of rock: Woodstock 1969

Carlos was stoned on acid while playing. The band was supposed to go on a few hours later so they decided to get stoned during the wait. 15 minutes after they dropped the hit they were told another band didn't show up and they had to play. A little trivia for you: Carlos started playing guitar at the age of 9 in a Mexican brothel.

Comshaw
He was about twenty-two then. He's still around at seventy-seven! I can't play an instrument nor have I ever dropped acid, but intuitively I don't know how he did the two at the same time. Music must be created in a different part of our minds than writing is.

As per @Comshaw: For the late Tom Petty, I'll offer one of his videos. He probably didn't realize it, but he was presenting a vision of 1980s California that doesn't exist any longer. In fact, it may never have existed, at least for many who lived there. Anyway, the shiny malls from then are becoming obsolete and the trim, young skateboarders are middle aged now.

If you're not from there , you may not know what "Reseda" means.

I just copied the URL, posted it in my comments and after I clicked on Post, it showed up as the video.

Was there last night. The Roadrunner in Boston with my daughter. King Diamond on Halloween...it doesn't get any better.

Willie Dixon was one of the most prolific and influential songwriters of the 20th century. Not many are aware of how many of their favorite blues, rock, and metal songs are based on his lyrics.

I'm not sure this is rock or not, but it fits in with the theme of failed celebrity dreams mentioned above. While the narrator in Tom Waits' "Going Out West" hasn't even arrived in California yet, he's obviously unsuited for his ambitions. For one thing, he seems to be violating his parole. The woman in Natalie Merchant's "San Andreas Fault" has been there for a while, and maybe even had a few small roles, but she is bitter about the experience. In "Do You Know The Way to San Jose?," the narrator has been there for years and yet is happy to unburden herself from the whole quest and go home.

The song many attribute as the first in the heavy metal genre. Definitely the OG doom metal.
