This is a long on going discussion with both sides having valid points.

The issue isn't "anti-immigrant." The complaints are coming from within the engineering community who claim that the H-1B hires are holding down the wages in the industry and to an extent that is a valid argument. Those that are pro H-1B argue that not enough citizens are graduating in those fields to fulfill the job openings and that is also a valid argument.

The media painting this as a "civil war" is bull shit.
This is one of the few issues you and I are in 100% agreement on.
I've got extensive experience with H1B Visa workers, and they are all over the map insofar as expertise. Starting around 2010 it seemed every freakin' candidate was from India and had a PhD degree. That dazzled the executives, but in day-to-day activities they often were mediocre at best. My worst criticism is that they tend to treat "hard deadlines" as "advisory in nature".

I once managed a seven person self-contained H1B group. We had an all-hands meeting and the leader of that group (who reported to me) stood up and told my immediate superior that his team would absolutely hit the target release-to-beta date. TWENTY FUCKING MINUTES after the meeting he told me in private that his team would be late with their deliverable. How late? TWELVE WEEKS. And I had a steady chain of emails for the past five months detailing how they had reached their deadlines, etc. SMH. Yes, I realize this is anecdotal, but it is an example.

Employers use and get used by H1B workers. They used to get paid less than American counterparts, now they are comparably paid but a 60-hour work week is expected (companies do this routinely, especially Musk's companies).

I heard one small tech company owner bitch about H1B workers, employers have mountains of paperwork to fill out to get these guys (90% male) onshore and three months after they arrive and get their foot in the door they file a I-129 H1B transfer petition through their lawyers to go work for the "big boy" tech companies instead. "I'm here, I've got a valid H1B visa, no paperwork for you except a written job offer, take me Google!"
 
Democrats err by doubling down on the same issues that caused them to lose to Trump last November. They should exploit divisions among Trump supporters and wait for Trump's tariffs, and Musk's plan to eliminate nearly one third of the federal budget, to harm the vast majority of Trump's supporters who are not rich.

He road tested this on his campaign to roaring approval. He's now calling for revocation of US citizenship of people who went through the legal process of acquiring US citizenship, and even says he has the ability to revoke "birthright citizenship" (those born in the USA of non-citizens.

The MAGA true-believer hate any and all foreigners who speak Spanish and a sizeable number of MAGA don't even want to stop there. Foreigners are a huge roadblock on the road back to White Power.

Trump doesn't care about the legality of what he calls for. He's just riling up his poorly educated base into sending him dollars and scaring judges into giving him immunity.

If he succeeds in any policy, he says it's because how great he is. If he fails, he blames someone else. Either the Dems who must be corrupt, or foreigners who must be deported, or unelected bureaucrats who should be kept out of politics (like Musk?). He said out loud that he never takes responsibility.

Remember when Presidents had a plaque on the desk that read 'The Buck Stops Here'? That seems so long ago.

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
  • You cannot man-splain away the language of the ratified Constitutional amendment.
  • The Supreme Court cannot modify, adjust or reinterpret this Constitutional amendment
  • Side note: do you know WHY this Amendment was brought about?
  • It was created because your MAGA-ancestors convinced the then-MAGA Supreme Court in 1857 to issue the Dred Scott decision, arguably one of the worst decisions ever rendered and the most famous one ever overturned by the Supreme Court itself. In the wake of overturning Dred Scot, a number of your MAGA-ancestors decided to simplify things and just make non-whites non-citizens by state law. When the Supreme Court indicated they'd entertain this interpretation, "we the people" said Oh Hell Naw and passed the 14th Amendment. Even the Supreme Court defers to the United States Constitution.

1. I think people like Reichy are clammering to end birthright citizenship because they're racist assholes who are fine when it benefitted their families and now hate that other people not like them benefit from it
2. I do think it should be challenged and settled by SCOTUS ...and I have no doubt that the amendment will be upheld

That is anti-immigrant. Any complaint about immigrant competition for jobs or wages is anti-immigrant -- it is the oldest form of anti-immigrant feeling.
