Oh I love Idris Elba.

Awesome as Luther. Awesome as Stringer Bell. Awesome as the big golden helmet guy in Thor.

And in the Sky ads. He's just great.

Yes! To all.

nod nods

Hell. Yes.

grins and flicks back through them all with a sigh

Good choices Starry. Very good.

So, I was scrolling casually through tumblr, when THIS HAPPENED

Is it weird that I absolutely hated Sebastian Stan in the movie The Covenant but totally love him in everything else?

I really hope Marvel decides to make him Captain America.

I heard that Cap 3 was supposed to be the Fallen Son? It's the last contracted movie for Chris Evans, and he's the least enthusiastic of the members of that franchise, so... Plotwise, that SHOULD be what happens. I hope Sebs gets in, too, because he's great. I loved Chris Evans but his attitude towards the role just kind of put a bad taste in my mouth.

Agreed. He's gorgeous but.... yeah like you said. He doesn't seem to happy to be in the role. I read an article where he said it's because he is always seen as Captain now and nothing else. Plus he wants to get into directing.

I'm going to assume that since they brought him back in the last one that he'll play a larger part and, hopefully, become Captain sooner or later. It'd be bullshit if they didn't.

It's interesting that, as a straight man (at least as straight as my Bohemian inclinations permit) my own ideas of what constitutes an attractive man seem very skewed from what many women find attractive. So many Hollywood stars - Ryan Gosling, I'm looking at you - seem to have eyes too close together, or other imperfections. But then I suppose I am looking at it from an aesthetic rather than sexual point of view, and though there is an overlap it perhaps isn't all that great. I've sometimes been asked by female friends who I think is a good looking man, and whilst they often accept that they are 'objectively' good looking they don't often agree that they are sexy.

I wonder what the readers of this thread, whom I imagine to be largely but by no means exclusively women interested in men, make of the Des Esseintes list? No particular order.

Jude Law

Johnny Depp

Cillian Murphy

Marlon Brando

Maybe I just like symmetrical faces? Killer cheekbones? Or maybe, as one friend put it to me, I only see the attraction in men who could, without too much of a twist, also be attractive as women? In other words, the rough, down and dirty types don't do anything for me, because I'm not wired that way. I don't know. But I'd be genuinely interested to see how much overlap there is.

It is! I'm going to reread Fallen Son stuff now, I think. Also, it's easy to be mad at Chris Evans but then he does stuff like this:

Des, I can definitely vouch for the deliciousness of that list. It distracts me from making a more articulate response to your interesting points. Though, I am being refused access to the Cillian Murphy image which is just incredibly saddening.

Interesting - thank you. Perhaps the differences aren't as large as I thought.

And the Cillian Murphy is just this guy with cheekbones, slight stubble, and huge, otherworldly blue eyes. Nothing you've not seen before...

This is interesting, although I'd point out that you want to be careful of lumping together traits that are "attractive" or "feminine." Sex characteristics don't necessarily equal sexual attraction - I'm not a big believer in assigning individual features to one group. It's not like I hop up and think, hey, that person's got freckles! They must be a beautiful woman and I really want to get on them! And their freckles. Anyway, there's a reason for my stance. Well, a couple of reasons... it's a bit insulting to make blanket generalizations about what makes someone sexy or not. Also, stuff like having long eyelashes shouldn't be indicative of one thing or another, genderwise. Everyone probably has a "type," but I wouldn't really know - I just go "want!" and don't discriminate. It's all very personal! (Name that movie, anyone?)

Additionally, "imperfections" makes it sound like people with flaws are preternatural. Everyone's got some scratches on the surface somewhere! But, anyhow, this thread really isn't for debates. I made it for a specific purpose and that purpose is not weighing what gives someone a big ol' A+ on the attractiveness scale. So! I think everyone you've mentioned has been featured on here, but I agree that Mr. Murphy seems mysteriously absent. Let's fix that!

So, what you're saying is....you want me for more than my freckles...?

giggles

Also...

Well, obviously. They do have a certain charm, though... that charm being, they're beautiful.

And the blue eyes. And just everything.

Apparently, also very distracting. :mad::heart:
