If you look at the 'say something nice' thread that one of the Playgrounders started, what strikes me as the difference is that every poster genuinely (99% of the time) has something positive and real to say about the other person. It's not like, oh, his sig lines are always funny or some bullshit like that. People actually get to know each other, deeply and on a truly personal, platonic level.

Which may be why it's perceived to be so hard to break in. It's a protective clan. For those of us who are delicate flowers, there's fear of strangers.

You'll find the same about the friendships here I think. I agree with the PG summation, I started my Lit life there and visit randomly when the HT USA shift are asleep. I have, on occasion dared to go against the grain in the PG and have learnt quickly that is not the done thing.

I don't particularly perceive the GB to be hard to break into, I guess I just have never felt I wanted to hang around there that much. For me, it's like visiting an Amusement park. I like to hop on a few rides but once every now and then is enough. I'd prefer the swings at the park on a regular basis.

That makes sense. I think one of the underlying pieces is that most of the posters who are regulars on the GB have been posting for years, and have also posted at other forums together. It creates a different view than could be seen from the outside.

You're right, of course. But the other night when a group of us GBers invaded the Playground, naturally a few people made comments about it being an invasion and to ignore us, but most actually posted with us and I got nothing but thank you pm's from PGers for shaking things up. Everyone had a blast. You just never know what will happen.

I hung out at the PG for nearly 3 yrs. Behind the scenes it's all cat fighting & Gossip about who posts too much like a whore etc.. or atleast it was when I was there.
