It's absolutely nothing like that now. NYC TNG is a huge, thriving group. The age limit is taken deadly seriously, all of the regular members (there are something like 500 people in the Fetlife group, though I would estimate that the amount of people who actually come out to events and meetings on a regular basis is closer to 200-ish) are enthusiastic and friendly. It's truly a place for younger kinksters to grow comfortably into the scene. NYC TNG regularly meets at Odessa (near Tompkins Square), and routinely takes up the entire back of the restaurant, and not a single lecherous old dude in site. I attended their very first meeting, and since it was an absolutely brand new group I expected there to be maybe 10 people there, but they had completely filled the place. That was only this past summer, and the group has done nothing but grow in positive ways since then.

Even TES' TNG group is pretty darn great now. It's been put under new (and awesome ) management, and the classes its been organizing are fantastic, the presenters its been getting have been top-notch.

I know that you aren't into the public scene at all, but things really are much different now than what you are describing, and I highly recommend coming out to an event.

The NYC scene is so much different now than it was when I went to my first munch, and that was only a couple of years ago. Its going through some sort of amazing Renaissance or re-birth or something. Its so thriving and exciting.

I'm substantially over 21 - and 23 - and 40 - and I pretty much agree with MisterSir in this case, though he was perhaps a bit less subtle in saying so than I would have been. But then maybe *that* (subtlety) can come with age, too.

Don't be. There's this final piece of mental development that happens between 26-30 for most people, where those last bits of judgement kick in. That doesn't necessarily negate the asinine tendencies of most people, but it is a real neurological thing, and I know there was a huge shift for me at around 28 of chilling out emotionally.

Just because everyone here is like-minded to some degree doesn't mean that everyone is friendly, safe, or sane. I'm hardly old enough to be your mother, but I have a daughter of my own, and I know I'd be terrified if I knew she was looking for any random takers. I don't know how into the scene you are, but take some time to get to know people here, make a couple friends, maybe find a mentor of sorts. i agree completely. that comment was not paticuarly well thought out. where i live the age of sexual consent is 16 and the age for everything else (alcohol, voting) is 18. so i would know as much at 20 as someone from the US would at 23? i doubt it. besides, in my area most people are drinking and having sex at 15-16, and how much of a difference does the legality make? what about countries where the age of consent is 12 or 13?
