That drop sounds more like 4s (which is supposed to mean good) rather than 5s, not bombing.

The "One Night" stories look like they have a disproportionate collection of hot-rating compared to the regular file. I think the site may be scrubbing them very hard to favor them.

Nope. I just got bombed as well. It’s THE TROLL. someone’s sitting in their moms basement hitting one stars and jerking off at the thought of the outraged Authors reactions, little knowing we’re all busy writing our next story.... and the trolling is so over the top it’s retarded. Whoever’s doing it is a few IQ points short of a dead dingo, they’re probably sitting there in one week old underwear smelling of rancid sweat and atrophied rolls of necrostic fat busily hitting that one star while playing with themselves and gorging on stale twinkies and flat super sized cokes and scratching their little miniature balls and then sniffing their fingers. Bwwwahahaha.

There are several possibilities, but there can't be more than one 1* vote in all that. It is possible, though that you were visited by the 2*-bomber twice, and the three other votes are 4* and 5* votes.

Do you know when the votes were cast? I was just gifted with another 2* vote.

As few as 1.7k views may be, I've had a respectable amount of votes (now 101). Also three comments and three favorites isn't too bad either. May be it really does pay off, throwing in a disclaimer asking for votes and comments. My other story in romance has near same amount of votes but ten times as many views, if I recall correctly. Either way pretty cool.

Thanks Keith. I don't have a great head for numbers. Those drops seemed to be too big for 4s, but I guess when the votes are still down in the double digits, the impact is bigger. I'll trust your math on this one.

My first of the day came around 10:45AM eastern (it was swept), and the second around 6:45PM eastern, so that doesn't look a lot like one troll dishing out 2* bombs.

The only way to find out what was voted (or swept) is to record the changes in the number of votes and the score, and back-calculate the vote.

I know one vote was swept but what it was I don't know. I don't pay that close of attention. If the troll is bombing mre, he is wasting his time. My story asks more questions and presents more mystery than it answers. A thinking persons story and we all know how those fair on Lit.

You could argue that if the writers are motivated (by a contest) then that makes better stories for (some) readers. Maybe it balances out.

My glance at the categories seems to indicate that the contest stories have been generally well-liked. I'm not sure about the total number of readers; I don't follow those statistics closely.

Regarding being overloaded: we have to pace ourselves. I get the impression that some contestants went for longer and more ambitious stories than usual. That's fine in itself, but it's not a paid job and there seems to be some self-imposed pressures by the writers.

Hey Guys, I don't do voting on my stories. If you are waiting for a story backed by scientific thesis as to why - well sorry. Fact is I'm lazy and when it comes to voting it involves maths. When it comes to maths I get by with whatever it takes to get thru the day. I do watch views, and comments and maybe even favs vs views. My first story here was a cataclysmic failure I thought, 50 comments about how my death and the death of my children would do the world a favour. For3 months I ignored Lit. When I got the cojones to come back, favs had risen to 20'ish and comments were great. Views had gone from 5k to 20k and that story still ticks over. Its gone from 37k to 41k(I think in the last 3 days) The fact is and I do know I've watched the views and read the comments that readers actively seek out stories from story-tellers, We are all story tellers and there are a myriad of readers. Sooner or later those with a hunger for good stories will find what they're after. Oh and I've now read 10 of our stories and they all share the same thing - they are really good stories. Oh and Melissa is right EC is a hard genre too make an impact in, harsh bunch and more discerning I think, despite that there are lot of you entered in that category and you're scoring well - so well done. The other thing is there was a full list of all our stories in mature so I downloaded a copy and now I can read at my leisure, which I'm guessing I'm not alone at doing. Finally and I say this with the utmost respect to you all, quit beating yourself up over the votes and favs - It's the long game that counts, Good stories always last the test of time, regards to you all, have a happy day

It's a shame the clowns are so determined though. I've read a few stories, and the quality is better than the ratings on the ones I've read. Hopefully it will give Laurel an opportunity to somehow refine her cleansing algorithm (but I don't quite know how).

Yeah, this one is a roller coaster. Certainly more volatile than anything I've ever seen. It's a shame, in my opinion, because having to adjust the scoring in and of itself raises questions. Are my own votes on the stories deemed to high and scrubbed away? Like I said, it's a shame but also a necessity if there's to be any scoring/voting at all.

I always imagined the trolls to be writers on this site (not pointing a finger at any of you, just to clarify) who get annoyed at other people's success/talent/work ethic and simply vote others down to stand higher, even if it was just temporarily.

I suppose it could also be a friend or family member of an author but I don't see any other reason why someone would bother.

Well, maybe for the competitions and hall of fame it’s other authors or supporters. Loving Wives trolls tend to target authors there and that’s it. This is more event specific targeting, which points more to a newer troll with a few mental health issues, because this is a pretty weird obsession. I’m fascinated to see how long it will keep this up. That’s real dedication.
