"One Night in XXX” Story Event: Official Support Thread

My story has two comments posted. Very nice ones, too!

Good to know. Guess I'll just be patient. I was hoping a comment or two (good or bad) might relieve some of the score-o-coaster anxiety. I appear to be at the top of another peak at the moment (knocks wood), but who knows how long it will last.

I have zero favs, a single comment (which was by the guy who did the beta read) and less than a thousand views. This is new to me. Oddly quiet.

And yes, the rollercoaster's been interesting to witness. Currently got it at 4,7 but it goes to 4,2 quick.

No favs and no comments on mine. This is the second-slowest reception any of my stories have ever received.

I suspect a lot of readers (at least in SciFi&F) are skipping the "One Night in XXX" stories -- which is easy to do, since they all have that naming convention. The only story that went up today that isn't a "One Night" story has more votes than all of the "One Night" stories combined, and of all the "One Night" stories, the first on the hub has most of the votes.

Two Favorites and no comments. 21 votes showing but 6 or 9 have gone away. score on another downhill run.

Yeah, SciFi does seem a little slow but mine is short, uh we're talking stories here, ya perverts.

Why do you think they would do that? It does seem like it but I can't think of a good reason why they'd do so. Just because they are less likely to stand out on their own?

I think it's the sheer volume of them. I can't recall any other event with such a long list.

Typical views in LW overnight are 8-10,000. This morning the story was sitting at 3k +

Perhaps the event is a little TOO successful :D

And it is right after Easter weekend. Lots of people perhaps still holidaying

Maybe as a group the SciFi&F readers aren't very attracted to the "One Night in..." concept.

I suppose that does make sense. After all, the stories were all published simultaneously, not daily like in contests. It might be a little overwhelming for readers.

Oh well. We'll see how this progresses. Maybe there is no peak but there is still that sticky in the stories-page. Might be a more gradual turnout.

It's interesting. I barely had a chance to look at the stats last night and I was surprised.

One Night in Beijing had 4 ratings and was at 4.75 (now at 4.18 and 22 ratings)
One Night in Chloe had 3 ratings and was at 5.0 (now at 4.32 and 19 ratings)
One Night in College Station had 3 ratings and was at 4.67 (now at 4.43 with 51 ratings)

All three were published in EC. The number of reads is interesting also.
Beijing has been read 1.2K times
Chloe has been read 998 times
College Station has been read 3.1K times.

I guess they love Melissa more then Chloe (ducks and runs away).

james (still running)

Is there going to be a permanent place to view all the story submissions for these new challenges?

I'm trying to read through the whole list, but there are so many this might take a week!

Great work everyone.

I hope these various stories do get finished and published eventually. With nearly 20,000 words done this one is obviously worth it. (I hope I haven't misinterpreted what you said.)

I really doubt I'll ever finish it. It's not the type of story I usually write, and I'd have to change the name since it would look strange to post a story with the title One Night In XXX a week after all the others.
I'll probably just ask my one friend if she wants to read what I have so far, then trash it.

If anyone who reads my story is wondering, I finished it before Notre Dame burned. Since it takes place in fall, it's safe to assume it was several months ago, I think. (One of my two commenters so far mentioned this - yes, the timing is regrettable!)

Nooooo, finish it, submit it, pm me and I’ll ask to have it added to the event page. There’s a couple more coming and I’ll be doing the same thing. It’s not a competition, no harm, no foul and it’s a shame to throw away the work you’ve put in.

Of course, this last fall rioters were setting Paris on fire.

They've heard I'm easier.

Of course you're easier - Chloe is 14 pages, and she put herself at the bottom of the list.:)

Joking aside, I have often noticed how much position in the daily story list can affect the number of reads. And 14 pages seems to be too much for many lit readers.

I should have gone with One Night In Aachen.

Lol. That was accidental (last on the list). And it’s loooong. And the sex doesn’t come until the last third. But it was fun to write. Mid-week is lower views than the weekend too.
