OOC for "the River Runs Red"

Good points to all said, BB.

You are correct about the effect on the others when Talon stalled...

Yeah, I can do a Vampire, but I was thinking of playing something different, a sorceror, or a human of some kind.

lol Start again! Too hard to pick up where it was left off. All eggs were up in the air and chaos was about to rain down on their collective heads. Too hard of a place to pick it up. many had stopped writing etc

Be more in depth with characters. give them a role to play out and a goal to work towards. This kind of story was all centered around the past catching up to two people.

Perhaps too self involved for a story with this many writers?

Very good and very true points raised there Sweet. Why I suggested the working up period so we can lay depth in for all the characters and try giving them all directions to follow from the start.

I have another female writer I could wrangle to join and will be rolling out a new concept. Kane really did take Sullivan over and I'm glad to consider Jack his.

PM me as to who she might be if you would Light? And I'm looking forward to seeing your new idea

Count me in too...though I haven't decided if I want to play Harrison again.

One thing though, Are we still basing this off the Anita Blake novels?

Had to think this question over a bit and my answer is "No" for the following reasons.

1:We have no "Anita Blake, vampire hunter", or the plot it would create

2: The author of these well written books dedicated extreme amounts of time to creating lineage, or familys of not just vampire, but also wolf, rat, lion, tiger, etc, etc, etc. We could do this but again it would force us to dedicate a huge amount of time & writing to give the story and characters that kind of depth.

{ The above being said I do want character depth and sub plots, but our own, not a parody of LKH's characters or books.}

3: Jean Claude was not adverse to taking on male lovers, and though I admire the books and his character I can't personally wrap my mind around doing that.

So? Think underworld when you think of the buildings, huge block and granite structures built back into the craggy, boulder strew mountains, making the perfect retreat for the "undead" and "nonhuman" side of the city...

The relationship between vampire and lycan is tenous, as well as the human factor, even the long term residents of Haven (I'm keeping the name of the city but will redefine it's layout in another long winded post) border on being racist as far as disliking and distrusting something other than thier own kind...

I'm hoping someone, male or even better yet female might take up the task and character of being a leader for the shape-shifters, representing them in writing the part as well as on an "official" status in the thread, part of Talon own past background will involve them and it would weave nicely into the story...

I'd like to keep the "monster" and with Sweet's assitance develop that character, NOT make it the major plot of the thread, only one of many minor ones, and thus letting all the cowriters choose to involve themselves in it, or not...

Finally, if you actually read this entire post.....I'm going to post "ads" for new writers, female in particular (wonder where all the Ladies are dragged off to) AND probably create a new OOC to go with the new main thread once we have our quota of writers.

"Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work."

The Seven Sins, and also the names of each floor inside the castle built into the side of the mountain that over looks Haven and the river that splits the city in two.

Feel free to chose a level for your character to live in and if it's already chosen be ready to have a room mate;)

Sweet (as Lana) has chosen Wrath

BB (as Talon) has chosen Greed

Veroe has chosen Pride

Gluttony will be the floor for "singles" who don't have room mates.... yet *winks*

By Black Bart's most irresistable invitation...

Name: Loren Meraviglia
True Name: Lorevais (This is a carefuly guarded secret. A weakness of her kind
is the ease with which they can be controlled by one who knows their True
Name.)
Race: Dreamborn Fae

Appearance: Loren is a small woman, standing five feet, two inches, and seven-eights. Those who call her short are not necessarily chastised- it is, after all, sometimes an advantage to be underestimated and dismissed. The youthfulness of her features, a delicate arrangement of high, arching cheekbones, nearly overlarge eyes, a thin and straight nose, and a little cupid's-bow mouth, adds to this sense of innocence, of tender years and fragile bones. Indeed, her shape is just barely too full to be called boyish- her breasts scant handfuls, her hips compactly curved- and overall, there isn't so much as an ounce of intimidation to her. Of course, those who evaluate strictly on appearance don't last overlong in Haven.

Loren's black hair holds a nearly liquid sheen and falls in a bone-straight, sharply geometric bob which terminates at the point of her pixielike chin, angling up to almost bare the pale joining of her neck and skull. Its color is interrupted by a single, two-inch wide streak of white- not grey, not bleached blonde, but white- just to the side of her left eye, and while it is regular and precise, it is also a natural result of her birth from dreams of chase, of terror, of pounding footfalls in dark forests, of helpless, futile, endless running. The overlarge eyes are a doelike brown- that is not at all natural. Loren's eyes are a molten, shifting silver color, a shade so starkly abnormal and so transfixing that to be pierced by her gaze is to question sanity. To avoid that effect, and the questions it would bring, she applies custom-fitted brown contacts every morning.

That delicate, slender shape is carefully concealed as well, her clothing tending toward the practical and modest- Loren's occupation is that of coordinator of the Welcome Rest shelter, soup kitchen, and community center. Funded exclusively on donations (which Loren displays the tenaciousness of a panther in pursuing) and run with the cheerful and seemingly endless force of Loren's own blood, sweat, and tears, the Welcome Rest serves lunch and dinner, provides afterschool tutoring and entertainment for children with nowhere in particular to be, and offers twenty five beds for those who need a little bit of help. Of course, a little bit of help is the strict upper limit of those whom Loren shelters- they are expected to work, and pushed (mostly) gently along a path to self-reliance and self-improvement. She prides herself on a stunning number of successful "graduates", who form the largest part of Loren's volunteer staff.

Most everyone can expect a warm greeting, a soft smile, and a truly sympathetic ear from Loren. Most everyone will be plied with cookies and sandwiches, with coffee for the road. Most everyone sees her name in a blurb, or hears her sparkling laugh at a social function, and feels a sneaky sweep of love and friendliness. But there is one who cannot count himself among the masses that Loren soothes and succors, and for him, that delicate body, that prettily turned jaw, those perceptive eyes work steadily toward his discovery, capture, and destruction.

Powers:
Like most Dreamborn, Loren has never aged, and doesn't expect to. The appearance she holds now is the same as the one she held when she woke, naked and screaming, in the cold light of Dream's forest. She is not immortal, though she is not as fragile as most humans- her strength is more than would be expected from her frame, but her flexibility and toughness are on par with creatures three times her size. Silver draws her blood, cold iron mutes her abilities and, if applied long enough, will poison her to a slow, agonizing, and wrenching death. She may or may not be dreamed again, but the process would be an exceedingly unpleasant one.

Being a creature of Dream, she has nearly limitless control of a subject's perceptions and sensations while they sleep. She cannot cause real physical harm in a dream, but she can create very very real pain and emotion- there are many mortals who have slipped away from adrenaline-triggered heart attacks or rage-born aneurysms under the direction of a Dreamborn. Loren's spirit is too soft to employ her skills that way, but she is not above directing a dream if it would give her information or insight that she believes will further a noble cause.

When moving about in physical form, Loren's powers are less ranging than they are in dreams. She can amplify or tame an existing emotion through prolonged touch with a mortal subject, and she can sense the different sorts of supernaturals by the relative amount of "Dream" they exude- ghosts being the most noticable, as they create a disturbing "feedback", Vampires causing her to feel a slipping, stomach-flipping dread, Shifters generally producing a feeling of wildness. Other forms of supernatural may be hard for her to pin down, but Loren is always able to detect a nonhuman presence.

Her prime defensive ability is to recede into dream. It is a process that requires at least a modicum of focus, and takes up to two minutes to complete. As Loren recedes, her form becomes steadily less corporeal, becoming more and more transparent, then a collection of something not unlike pale stars, and finally nothingness. Loren can perform this transition when she requires escape from a dangerous situation, but because it takes so long, it's obviously a last resort- and physical harm can be enacted till the last moment. Any loss of consciousness would halt the process, reverting Loren to physicality and rendering her effectively helpless. Of course, when Loren is well-rested and healthy, the process is faster, when she is wounded, overworked, or in the presence of beings of exceptional evil, the process is slower. Since Loren's ability to match strength with more powerful supernaturals is obviously less than excellent, she may choose to appear to them in Dream until their friendliness can be ascertained. She's also not one for picking fights, unless the call to defend another is made.

Since I am putting Lana in the catacombs /basement of the place. Lust doesnt quite fit the name of the floor /location. One would think lust would be up higher, say bed chambers? lol

Switch lana's floor to Wrath ;)

typical, changing her mind already:rolleyes:

damn BB, you bring an exceptional cast and an interesting premise... I would love the Envy floor as a shape-shifter, but I wish I could actually upkeep a decent writing schedule to write in this story.

How long before life slows VT? I can dance a bit with my own posts and buy some time, if I know when you're back?

For as long as it takes for me to get used to doing a full time job and coming home tired and drained. You'd think that I'd get used to it after a month and a half of doing this. I just didn't realize it'd be so different from being in school. I mean. I can dream in class about what I want to write, but I can't do that at work and still be coherent enough to write code...

So the short answer is... don't know. I'll follow the thread. If things slow down I'll drop you a line and if there's an opening or room, I'll see if I can join.

Sounds reasonable though I'll miss you VT *hugs* Hope you find the balance and energy in real life:rose:

Hmm, good to all ideas.

Some worldbuilding: How about we base Haven off of Berlin in the cold war. Two sides not at war but only two or three steps away from beating the wardrums with a border between them and a city bisected by that border. On the vamp side its a feudal kingdom the human side a municipal democracy with plenty of spying and skulduggery going on between them.

If its still open I think I'd like the chance to do the shapeshifter leader though
I'll understand if I'm going too underworld for you BB.

Name: Deagan Roarke
Species: Werewolf
Age: 36
Apearance:
CopyofChristian-Kane-t02.jpg

Bio: for centuries werewolves were slaves, pets, or at best second class citizens under Vampire rule until Roarke's Great great great great great grandfather Deagan (Roarke was named after him) rebelled against his vampire overseers and started a bitter feud between his pack and any and all vampires. A bitter feud only matched by the long bloody history between human and well...everyone else.

Even though Vampires and the other races were faster or stronger or had a host of other advantages the humans had two things going for them numbers and their fiendish ingenuity with all things scientific. Roarke's pack, once the largest to be found in his father's day were gathering for the festival of the lunar eclipse when they fell victim to a vicious and cowardly bombing from Human agents. Only a tenth of his pack survived, most dying a lingering painful death including Roarke's father.

As only a cub of six years old, bereft without his father and 90% of the only people he had ever known, Roarke and his pack was on the brink of extinction when a Vampire (of all things) offered him and his pack sanctuary within his domain in a city right on the border.

Since taking Talon up on his offer his pack was steadily recuperating especially with the fragile cease fire between Talon and the humans for the last thirty years easing the bloodshed. Officially Roarke was a ward of a vampire, but he had grown up in the traditions of his pack despite talon's best efforts to cosmopolitanize him, and the day he or any of his pack bows their knees again to a vampire would be over his dead broken bleeding body. Even if that vampire was their current protector-and maybe not so bad (though Roarke would never admit that)-but there are humans out there where the words NEVER AGAIN! have as a special significance as they did to him.

let me know if this is acceptible BB, or if I need to edit anything.

Excellent ideas Veroe! It'll make it more than interesting to say the least to have a strong presence of Lycan in the story, Talon will have to stay on his toes I'm thinking:D

Couple of corrections, or points, maybe I'm reading into your post wrong as I do at times, but here goes?

Haven has been at "peace" for 400 years for the most part, there has been the occasional "violation" of that treaty and when it was on his side of the river Talon has quickly, effeciently dealt with it. You stated 30 years, but maybe that's the amount of time Roarke and his pack have enjoyed the protection of Haven at Talon's invitation?

Roarke may not bow to any human, or any other race, but Talon is smart enough to bind him to himself, If Talon is hurt or killed so does Roarke and his pack follow the same fate (as does all vampire who enjoy Talon's treaty)

Especially when Roarke has a growing force that might one day go rogue on Talon.... The vampire would never insult Roarke by insisting he bow or kneel, rather he'd prefer earning that courtesy, and with the "binding" know that when it really matter he has a strong and deadly allie to count on his side.

That said it doesn't mean the two won't and can't "butt heads", both Alpha males, both having thier own kind in mind first, and both hating the humans....

I think with your bio it would be perfect for Roarke and his pack to occupy the level within the castle called Pride, one floor above Lana's (thinking of the noise the huge Lycans can make on a Saturday night);)

What are your thoughts V

ill bring up something here within the next hour or two, found a Pic i wanna use

Logan, you're still in "stand by" mode as all the original male writers have agreed to return:)

It's only fair to let them have first choice as without them the original thread would have never begun:eek:

So hold back a bit and wait if you would? Thanks!

Name: Kayla Hayes
Age: 23
Species: Human
Occupation: The mortal assistant to Talon.

Appearance: pale in every sense. Pale white hair, fairer than fair skin, pale blue eyes. Some would say she was a mere passing though, easily overlooked if not intentionally viewed.

Kayla serves her superior in all ways.
Courier.
Security.
Sustenance, if need be.

She has a rare hh bloodtype, which means the lack of antigens in her blood provides a purer bloodsource for those who need it. She is often found to be silent, rarely speaking unless absolutely necessary. That doesn't mean she doesn't express herself, however. Her blunt ways can easily explain what's on the girl's mind.

She hates being mortal. She wants to be strong like Talon, like all vampires. "The Greater Race", as she dubs them. Humans are frail and easily destroyed. She trains and fights to prove her own worth, but secretly laments on not being as strong as the one above her.

Abilities:
Kayla has no incredible supernatural abilities, but the strict training she has pushed upon herself has left her with near vampire's agility, above average human sense of sight and hearing.

She can handle just about any weapon. If it's unfamiliar, she'll adapt it to something she knows- even if its simply a blunt attack.

Relax, have fun with your character, converse with your co-writers

In the end you'll have found friends, a family of sorts and pleasure mixed within it all:rose:
