Yeah but would that provide enough power?
Not sure. Keep in mind no one's ever tried to make a non-nuclear reactor.

That's true. I'm still dubious about the cost effectiveness of it, but its very out of the box thinking there.
Let's move on to gravity simulation.
As I see it we can either just accept zero gravity.
Simulate it with rotating sections of the ship.
Or use some superscience gravity field or gravity plating in the flooring.
Gravity SIMULATION is not the same thing as artificial gravity. Simulation is most likely on colonies or ships that are just long cylinders with engines. Gravity field generators would be possible, but to create them we'd first have to create ANTIgravity.
good points, I meant artificial gravity. I think until science understands alot more about gravitics we're stuck with just accepting zero g. Unfortanately that means our battleship can't go FTL, not unless the crew wants to be turned into goo.
It also means the lightsaber is impossible. Because a lightsaber would require a gravitic field to be useable.
Well lightsabers aren't really scientifically possible any way. Admitting that doesn't bother me in the slightest as a star wars fan.
Well, they are, it's just that they require different technologies from what current scientists and scifi writers would believe. Crystallizing photons is far more likely, in any case, as are Beamsabers.
If you say so.
We've already talked about beam sabers, let's talk about the marines. You said armored marines-like in halo or starship troopers?
ODST is a good example, yes. Another good example would be the Colonial Marines from Aliens. Or GF Marines from Metroid (though with Samus' level of training)
I think I disagree with the ODST look. I don't think they'll be in bulky armor plated suits. I think the infantry troops will be given combat skinsuits made from synthetic composite fibers that will be light and flexible as you could want wearing a spacesuit or hostile environment suit but have the same tensile strength to resist enemy fire from most ballistic rounds ofcourse that doesn't count energy weaponry. as well as modular weaponry like in Mass Effect with differing and smarter rounds. With a battlefield wifi network connecting all the units to the commander on the ship as well as eachother's immediate situation.
Then special forces would have the more cybernetic look in order to carry the heavier ordinance like colonial marines in Aliens.
I've seen and read plenty about this sort of thing to think its quite possible.
Well, by the ODST armor, I mean they'd be equipped with a variety of gear. But they'd have training similar to orbital drop troops. Heavy G training, dives, aerial combat, and so on.
You're thinking something more like Reach's armors then? Modular nature?I think they'll have general training in those areas, but I also think they'll have specialized troops to operate best in those different environments like they have in modern millitaries today. Sure they train all the grunts how to survive and fight in arctic, desert, mountainous terrain, but they also have Airborne forces, mountaineer forces, desert combat units, covert operations squads. So I agree with most of what you said, but beleive some specialization will happen.
You're thinking something more like Reach's armors then? Modular nature?
Not sure about what's the difference between Reach and ODST armor. Modular nature for their gear and weaponry. I know the army's already looking into making alot of their gear more internalized and portable as well as more durable. The land-warrior project wasn't just about putting a camera on the barrel of a gun to look around corners you know.
Personally, I think they're going in the wrong direction entirely. I think the next stage of warfare will come in the form of Zoids.
Perhaps in alien terrains, but I still think here on earth we'll never see mecha like in anime. It's just easier and more cost-effective to make armored vehicles rather than robots. If they can make some serious leaps in the development of robotics, perhaps.
Heh. the major problem with the development of robotics can best be summed up by a single roboticist at MIT. He's solved the major problem and said "Why invent something NEW when Nature's already perfected it?"
What do you mean?
He was talking about movement and balance. The methods we've been trying in terms of robotics have met with only marginal results. Someone once told me a Gundam is impossible to build because it would be topheavy. The problem with that logic is, by that same logic, we shouldn't be able to walk at all.
I remember. The secret is we've developed an intricate method of keeping our balance that's a lot more complicated than we give it credit for and Robotics just hasn't really replicated it that well.
we've talked about that already too. Let's see what else is there. defensive systems. Deflector shields or point defense?
