He's such a pretentious arsehole.Father John Misty can do no wrong in my opinion. An amazing composer, musician, and storyteller.
And the story is no different… the lyrics suck you right in, haunting guitar, pretty minimal, so you’re listening to the lyrics, which hit hard.
Jesus Christ, girl
What are people gonna think?
When I show up to one of several funerals
I've attended for Grandpa this week
With you, with me
But someone's gotta help me dig
Someone's gotta help me dig
I’m not even sure what it’s all about: love, death, life…
But one thing I do know for sure - this is a perfect song.
(I hate the official video of this one, but this is just the music)
Great song! The guitar sound is so… right there… no other way of saying itI tried.
I can't resist.
Welcome! You don’t need to know music theory or chords for this thread. You just need to describe why a song is great or perfect to you!I took the time to read and listen to the songs in every post in this thread. I'm probably not the person to be posting here. I can't talk about the cords. I can't really talk about any music theory or anything like that.
All I really know is what "I" enjoy listening to depending on my mood. Yes the music I listen to depends on the mood I'm in at the time.
This song by Jim Croce, "Hard Way Every time", I like and I think it's a perfect song. The words tell me he may have had a rough time as he aged, but in the end of it he had to go thru it all and he's okay with it.
Most of the songs I post on the different threads here I wasn't even born when they came out. My friends all say I have an old soul. I love the songs from the late 50s thru the 80s the most. I like classical too, even opera. As I have already stated what I listen to all depends on my mood.
Anyway, here's the song and I like it!
i have a “theory” abt English bands from the 60s.Oklahoma USA - The Kinks
One of my favorites, and most perfect songs from one of my favorite bands. Composer and lead singer Ray Davies had a habit of highlighting the everyday people in British life.
This song shows a woman of lowly means who fantasizes about something better - one of their best songs.
The Kinks are my favorite English band. They were probably the original punks too. Banned from playing in US for a time. Using screwdriver in amp to get tone on You Really Got Me. When I briefly lived in UK did a nice self guided walking tour of all things Kinks. Lots of Pubs around North London. Also saw musical called Sunny Afternoon about them that was fucking brilliant. Sadly it never made it to States as far as I lnow. Even met Matt Damon earlier in day while buying tickets. That was wild.i have a “theory” abt English bands from the 60s.
No disrespect to the Beatles bcz they were the first, the best and probably the most innovative. (Plus I have to admit that in punk rock circles it was popular to not like the Beatles or to discount them as part of the old guard)
But to me The Stones, The Who and The Kinks are the holy trinity of English rock n roll. The stones who really are rockers. The Who who could tell a story like it was no one’s business, and the kinks, who would tell the same stories about everyday people and life.
When I was deployed I. Iraq for desert storm, my friend made me a mix tape (like on a cassette) of all kinds of good music. Mostly punk rock or shoe gaze, but this one was on it.
I’ve heard it on commercials, but it’s a prefect song.
And its sister song from the same album: People Take Pictures of Each Otheri have a “theory” abt English bands from the 60s.

That song is insanely good and so are Ratboys in general. Penny In Lake from that same album is good. Love the guitars on their songs. They seem like they listened to a lot of Midwest Alt-Country. Maybe lots if Uncle Tupelo. Good stuff my man.Light Night Mountains All That by Ratboys is a perfect song.
Starts out so unassuming. Slow and acoustic, quite pretty. Then the guitar kicks in. Pretty basic, not two in your face, but has a nice and good sound.
But it’s the chorus or break, I’m not sure which with the bass… that does it for me… there’s something ominous about it.
The song explodes into an orgiastic fury towards the middle…. Then somehow back into another verse and chorus before slow burning into a longish (but not too self indulgent) fade out.
Great and intense vocals, nice lyrics, tight drumming and the bass!!! In my mind a perfect song.
Post-punk perfection!
